The Georgia Guidestones

And here’s something new:

The Georgia Guidestones may be the most enigmatic monument in the US: huge slabs of granite, inscribed with directions for rebuilding civilization after the apocalypse. Only one man knows who created them and he’s not talking.

The strangest monument in America looms over a barren knoll in northeastern Georgia. Five massive slabs of polished granite rise out of the earth in a star pattern. The rocks are each 16 feet tall, with four of them weighing more than 20 tons apiece. Together they support a 25,000-pound capstone. Approaching the edifice, it’s hard not to think immediately of England’s Stonehenge or possibly the ominous monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Built in 1980, these pale gray rocks are quietly awaiting the end of the world as we know it.

Called the Georgia Guidestones, the monument is a mystery nobody knows exactly who commissioned it or why. The only clues to its origin are on a nearby plaque on the ground which gives the dimensions and explains a series of intricate notches and holes that correspond to the movements of the sun and stars and the “guides” themselves, directives carved into the rocks.

These instructions appear in eight languages ranging from English to Swahili and reflect a peculiar New Age ideology. Some are vaguely eugenic
(Guide Reproduction Wisely Improving Fitness and Diversity); others prescribe standard-issue hippie mysticism (Prize Truth Beauty Love Seeking Harmony with the Infinite).

What’s most widely agreed upon based on the evidence available is that the Guidestones are meant to instruct the dazed survivors of some impending apocalypse as they attempt to reconstitute civilization. Not everyone is comfortable with this notion. A few days before I visited, the stones had been splattered with polyurethane and spray-painted with graffiti, including slogans like “Death to the new world order.” This defacement was the first serious act of vandalism in the Guidestones’ history, but it was hardly the first objection to their existence. In fact, for more than three decades this uncanny structure in the heart of the Bible Belt has been generating responses that range from enchantment to horror. Supporters (notable among them Yoko Ono) have praised the messages as a stirring call to rational thinking, akin to Thomas Paine’s The Age of Reason. Opponents have attacked them as the Ten Commandments of the Antichrist.

Whoever the anonymous architects of the Guidestones were, they knew what they were doing: The monument is a highly engineered structure that flawlessly tracks the Sun. It also manages to engender endless fascination, thanks to a carefully orchestrated aura of mystery. And the stones have attracted plenty of devotees to defend against folks who would like them destroyed. Clearly, whoever had the monument placed here understood one thing very well: People prize what they don’t understand at least as much as what they do.

The story of the Georgia Guidestones began on a Friday afternoon in June 1979, when an elegant gray-haired gentleman showed up in Elbert County, made his way to the offices of Elberton Granite Finishing, and introduced himself as Robert C. Christian. He claimed to represent “a small group of loyal Americans” who had been planning the installation of an unusually large and complex stone monument. Christian had come to Elberton the county seat and the granite capital of the world because he believed its quarries produced the finest stone on the planet.

Joe Fendley, Elberton Granite’s president, nodded absently, distracted by the rush to complete his weekly payroll. But when Christian began to describe the monument he had in mind, Fendley stopped what he was doing. Not only was the man asking for stones larger than any that had been quarried in the county, he also wanted them cut, finished, and assembled into some kind of enormous astronomical instrument.

What in the world would it be for? Fendley asked. Christian explained that the structure he had in mind would serve as a compass, calendar, and clock. It would also need to be engraved with a set of guides written in eight of the world’s major languages. And it had to be capable of withstanding the most catastrophic events, so that the shattered remnants of humanity would be able to use those guides to reestablish a better civilization than the one that was about to destroy itself.

Built to survive the apocalypse, the Georgia Guidestones are not merely instructions for the future the massive granite slabs also function as a clock, calendar, and compass.

The monument sits at the highest point in Elbert County and is oriented to track the sun’s east-west migration year-round.

On an equinox or solstice, visitors who stand at the west side of the “mail slot” are positioned to see the sun rise on the horizon.

An eye-level hole drilled into the center support stone allows stargazers on the south side to locate Polaris, the North Star.

A 7/8-inch hole drilled through the capstone focuses a sunbeam on the center column and at noon pinpoints the day of the year.

Fendley is now deceased, but shortly after the Guidestones went up, an Atlanta television reporter asked what he was thinking when he first heard Christian’s plan. “I was thinking, ‘I got a nut in here now. How am I going get him out?'” Fendley said.
He attempted to discourage the man by quoting him a price several times higher than for any project commissioned there before. The job would require special tools, heavy equipment, and paid consultants, Fendley explained. But Christian merely nodded and asked how long it would take. Fendley didn’t rightly know—six months, at least. He wouldn’t be able to even consider such an undertaking, he added, until he knew it could be paid for. When Christian asked whether there was a banker in town he considered trustworthy, Fendley saw his chance to unload the strange man and sent him to look for Wyatt Martin, president of the Granite City Bank.

The tall and courtly Martin the only man in Elberton besides Fendley known to have met R. C. Christian face to face is now 78. “Fendley called me and said, ‘A kook over here wants some kind of crazy monument,'” Martin says. “But when this fella showed up he was wearing a very nice, expensive suit, which made me take him a little more seriously. And he was well-spoken, obviously an educated person.”

Martin was naturally taken aback when the man told him straight out that R. C. Christian was a pseudonym. He added that his group had been planning this secretly for 20 years and wanted to remain anonymous forever. “And when he told me what it was he and this group wanted to do, I just about fell over,” Martin says. “I told him, ‘I believe you’d be just as well off to take the money and throw it out in the street into the gutters.’ He just sort of looked at me and shook his head, like he felt kinda sorry for me, and said, ‘You don’t understand.'”

Martin led Christian down the street to the town square, where the city had commissioned a towering Bicentennial Memorial Fountain, which included a ring of 13 granite panels, each roughly 2 by 3 feet, signifying the original colonies. “I told him that was about the biggest project ever undertaken around here, and it was nothing compared to what he was talking about,” Martin says. “That didn’t seem to bother him at all.” Promising to return on Monday, the man went off to charter a plane and spend the weekend scouting locations from the air. “By then I half believed him,” Martin says.

When Christian came back to the bank Monday, Martin explained that he could not proceed unless he could verify the man’s true identity and “get some assurance you can pay for this thing.” Eventually, the two negotiated an agreement: Christian would reveal his real name on the condition that Martin promise to serve as his sole intermediary, sign a confidentiality agreement pledging never to disclose the information to another living soul, and agree to destroy all documents and records related to the project when it was finished. “He said he was going to send the money from different banks across the country,” Martin says, “because he wanted to make sure it couldn’t be traced. He made it clear that he was very serious about secrecy.”

Before leaving town, Christian met again with Fendley and presented the contractor with a shoe box containing a wooden model of the monument he wanted, plus 10 or so pages of detailed specifications. Fendley accepted the model and instructions but remained skeptical until Martin phoned the following Friday to say he had just received a $10,000 deposit. After that, Fendley stopped questioning and started working. “My daddy loved a challenge,” says Fendley’s daughter, Melissa Fendley Caruso, “and he said this was the most challenging project in the history of Elbert County.”

Construction of the Guidestones got under way later that summer. Fendley’s company lovingly documented the progress of the work in hundreds of photographs. Jackhammers were used to gouge 114 feet into the rock at Pyramid Quarry, searching for hunks of granite big enough to yield the final stones. Fendley and his crew held their breath when the first 28-ton slab was lifted to the surface, wondering if their derricks would buckle under the weight. A special burner (essentially a narrowly focused rocket motor used to cut and finish large blocks of granite) was trucked to Elberton to clean and size the stones, and a pair of master stonecutters was hired to smooth them.

Fendley and Martin helped Christian find a suitable site for the Guidestones in Elbert County: a flat-topped hill rising above the pastures of the Double 7 Farms, with vistas in all directions. For $5,000, owner Wayne Mullinex signed over a 5-acre plot. In addition to the payment, Christian granted lifetime cattle-grazing rights to Mullinex and his children, and Mullinex’s construction company got to lay the foundation for the Guidestones.

With the purchase of the land, the Guidestones’ future was set. Christian said good-bye to Fendley at the granite company office, adding, “You’ll never see me again.” Christian then turned and walked out the door without so much as a handshake.

From then on, Christian communicated solely through Martin, writing a few weeks later to ask that ownership of the land and monument be transferred to Elbert County, which still holds it. Christian reasoned that civic pride would protect it over time. “All of Mr. Christian’s correspondence came from different cities around the country,” Martin says. “He never sent anything from the same place twice.”

The astrological specifications for the Guidestones were so complex that Fendley had to retain the services of an astronomer from the University of Georgia to help implement the design. The four outer stones were to be oriented based on the limits of the Sun’s yearly migration. The center column needed two precisely calibrated features: a hole through which the North Star would be visible at all times, and a slot that was to align with the position of the rising sun during the solstices and equinoxes. The principal component of the capstone was a 7\8-inch aperture through which a beam of sunlight would pass at noon each day, shining on the center stone to indicate the day of the year.

The main feature of the monument, though, would be the 10 dictates carved into both faces of the outer stones, in eight languages: English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, and Swahili. A mission statement of sorts ( LET THESE BE GUIDESTONES TO AN AGE OF REASON ) was also to be engraved on the sides of the capstone in Egyptian hieroglyphics, classical Greek, Sanskrit, and Babylonian cuneiform. The United Nations provided some of the translations (including those for the dead languages[?]), which were stenciled onto the stones and etched with a sandblaster.

By early 1980, a bulldozer was scraping the Double 7 hilltop to bedrock, where five granite slabs serving as a foundation were laid out in a paddle-wheel design. A 100-foot-tall crane was used to lift the stones into place. Each of the outer rocks was 16 feet 4 inches high, 6 feet 6 inches wide, and 1 foot 7 inches thick. The center column was the same (except only half the width), and the capstone measured 9 feet 8 inches long, 6 feet 6 inches wide, and 1 foot 7 inches thick. Including the foundation stones, the monument’s total weight was almost 240,000 pounds. Covered with sheets of black plastic in preparation for an unveiling on the vernal equinox, the Guidestones towered over the cattle that continued to graze beneath it at the approach of winter’s end.

The monument ignited controversy before it was even finished. The first rumor began among members of the Elberton Granite Association, jealous of the attention being showered on one of their own: Fendley was behind the whole thing, they said, aided by his friend Martin, the banker. The gossip became so poisonous that the two men agreed to take a lie detector test at the Elberton Civic Center. The scandal withered when The Elberton Star reported that they had both passed convincingly, but the publicity brought a new wave of complaints.
As word of what was being inscribed spread, Martin recalls, even people he considered friends asked him why he was doing the devil’s work. A local minister, James Travenstead, predicted that “occult groups” would flock to the Guidestones, warning that “someday a sacrifice will take place here.” Those inclined to agree were hardly discouraged by Charlie Clamp, the sandblaster charged with carving each of the 4,000-plus characters on the stones: During the hundreds of hours he spent etching the guides, Clamp said, he had been constantly distracted by “strange music and disjointed voices.”

The team that built the Guidestones didn’t know who was financing the project—just that it was the biggest monument in county history. Local banker Wyatt Martin inspects the English lettering with sandblaster Charlie Clamp before the 1980 unveiling.

The unveiling on March 22, 1980, was a community celebration. Congress member Doug Barnard, whose district contained Elberton, addressed a crowd of 400 that flowed down the hillside and included television news crews from Atlanta. Soon Joe Fendley was the most famous Elbertonian since Daniel Tucker, the 18th-century minister memorialized in the folk song “Old Dan Tucker.” Bounded by the Savannah and Broad rivers but miles from the nearest interstate—”as rural as rural can be,” in the words of current Star publisher Gary Jones Elberton was suddenly a tourist destination, with visitors from all over the world showing up to see the Guidestones. “We’d have people from Japan and China and India and everywhere wanting to go up and see the monument,” Martin says. And Fendley’s boast that he had “put Elberton on the map” was affirmed literally in spring 2005, when National Geographic Traveler listed the Guidestones as a feature in its Geotourism MapGuide to Appalachia.

But many who read what was written on the stones were unsettled. Guide number one was, of course, the real stopper:

maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.

There were already 4.5 billion people on the planet, meaning eight out of nine had to go (today it would be closer to 12 out of 13). This instruction was echoed and expanded by tenet number two:
guide reproduction wisely improving fitness and diversity.

It didn’t take a great deal of imagination to draw an analogy to the practices of, among others, the Nazis. Guide number three instructed readers to unite humanity with a living new language. This sent a shiver up the spine of local ministers who knew that the Book of Revelations warned of a common tongue and a one world government as the accomplishments of the Antichrist. Guide number four
rule passion faith tradition and all things with tempered reason

was similarly threatening to Christians committed to the primacy of faith over all. The last six guides were homiletic by comparison.

protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
avoid petty laws and useless officials.
balance personal rights with social duties.
prize truth beauty love seeking harmony with the infinite.
be not a cancer on the earth leave room for nature leave room for nature.

Even as locals debated the relative merits of these commandments, the dire predictions of Travenstead seemed to be coming true. Within a few months, a coven of witches from Atlanta adopted the Guidestones as their home away from home, making weekend pilgrimages to Elberton to stage various pagan rites (“dancing and chanting and all that kind of thing,” Martin says) and at least one witch marriage ceremony. No humans were sacrificed on the altar of the stones, but there are rumors that several chickens were beheaded.

A 1981 article in the monthly magazine UFO Report cited Naunie Batchelder (identified in the story as “a noted Atlanta psychic”) as predicting that the true purpose of the guides would be revealed “within the next 30 years.” Viewed from directly overhead, the Guidestones formed an X, the piece in UFO Report observed, making for a perfect landing site.

Visitors kept coming, but after several failed investigations into the identity of R. C. Christian, the media lost interest. Curiosity flared again briefly in 1993, when Yoko Ono contributed a track called “Georgia Stone” to a tribute album for avant-garde composer John Cage, with Ono chanting the 10th and final guide nearly verbatim: “Be not a cancer on Eart leave room for nature leave room for nature.” A decade later, however, when comedienne Roseanne Barr tried to work a bit on the Guidestones into her comeback tour, nobody seemed to care.

Christian kept in touch with Martin, writing the banker so regularly that they became pen pals. Occasionally, Christian would call from a pay phone at the Atlanta airport to say he was in the area, and the two would rendezvous for dinner in the college town of Athens, a 40-mile drive west of Elberton. By this time, Martin no longer questioned Christian’s secrecy. The older man had successfully deflected Martin’s curiosity when the two first met, by quoting Henry James’ observations of Stonehenge: “You may put a hundred questions to these rough-hewn giants as they bend in grim contemplation of their fallen companions, but your curiosity falls dead in the vast sunny stillness that enshrouds them.” Christian “never would tell me a thing about this group he belonged to,” Martin says. The banker received his last letter from Christian right around the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and assumes the man who would have been in his mid-eighties has since passed away.

The mysterious story of R. C. Christian and the absence of information about the true meaning of the Guidestones were bound to become an irresistible draw for conspiracy theorists and “investigators” of all kinds. Not surprisingly, three decades later there is no shortage of observers rushing to fill the void with all sorts of explanations.

Among them is an activist and government shill named Mark Dice, author of a book called The Resistance Manifesto. In 2005, Dice (who was using a pseudonym of his own “John Conner” appropriated from the Terminator franchise’s main character) began to demand that the Guidestones be “smashed into a million pieces.” He claims that the monument has “a deep Satanic origin,” a stance that has earned him plenty of coverage, both in print and on the Web. According to Dice, Christian was a high-ranking member of “a Luciferian secret society” at the forefront of the New World Order. “The elite are planning to develop successful life-extension technology in the next few decades that will nearly stop the aging process,” Dice says, “and they fear that with the current population of Earth so high, the masses will be using resources that the elite want for themselves. The Guidestones are the New World Order’s Ten Commandments. They’re also a way for the elite to get a laugh at the expense of the uninformed masses, as their agenda stands as clear as day and the zombies don’t even notice it.”

Ironically, Dice’s message has mainly produced greater publicity for the Guidestones. This, in turn, has brought fresh visitors to the monument and made Elbert County officials even less inclined to remove the area’s only major tourist attraction.

Phyllis Brooks, who runs the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce, pronounced herself aghast last November when the Guidestones were attacked by vandals for the first time ever. While Dice denies any involvement in the assault, he seems to have inspired it: Spray-painted on the stones were messages like “Jesus will beat u satanist” and “No one world government.” Other defacements asserted that the Council on Foreign Relations is “ran by the devil,” that the 9/11 attacks were an inside job, and that President Obama is a Muslim.

The vandals also splashed the Guidestones with polyurethane, which is much more difficult to remove than paint. Despite the graffiti’s alignment with his views, Dice says he disapproves of the acts. “A lot of people were glad such a thing happened and saw it as standing up against the New World Order,” Dice says, “while others who are unhappy with the stones saw the actions as counterproductive and inappropriate.”

Martin winces every time he hears Dice’s “Luciferian secret society” take on the Guidestones. But while he disagrees, he also admits that he doesn’t know for sure. “All I can tell you is that Mr. Christian always seemed a very decent and sincere fella to me.”

Dice, of course, is far from the only person with a theory about the Guidestones. Jay Weidner, a former Seattle radio commentator turned erudite conspiracy hunter, has heavily invested time and energy into one of the most popular hypotheses. He argues that Christian and his associates were Rosicrucians, followers of the Order of the Rosy Cross, a secret society of mystics that originated in late medieval Germany and claim understanding of esoteric truths about nature, the universe, and the spiritual realm that have been concealed from ordinary people.

Weidner considers the name R. C. Christian an homage to the legendary 14th-century founder of the Rosicrucians, a man first identified as Frater C.R.C. and later as Christian Rosenkreuz. Secrecy, Weidner notes, has been a hallmark of the Rosicrucians, a group that announced itself to the world in the early 17th century with a pair of anonymous manifestos that created a huge stir across Europe, despite the fact that no one was ever able to identify a single member. While the guides on the Georgia stones fly in the face of orthodox Christian eschatology, they conform quite well to the tenets of Rosicrucianism, which stress reason and endorse a harmonic relationship with nature.

Weidner also has a theory about the purpose of the Guidestones. An authority on the hermetic and alchemical traditions that spawned the Rosicrucians, he believes that for generations the group has been passing down knowledge of a solar cycle that climaxes every 13,000 years. During this culmination, outsize coronal mass ejections are supposed to devastate Earth.

Meanwhile, the shadowy organization behind the Guidestones is now orchestrating a “planetary chaos,” Weidner believes, that began with the recent collapse of the US financial system and will result eventually in major disruptions of oil and food supplies, mass riots, and ethnic wars worldwide, all leading up to the Big Event on December 21, 2012. “They want to get the population down,” Weidner says, “and this is what they think will do it. The Guidestones are there to instruct the survivors.”

On hearing Weidner’s ideas, Martin shakes his head and says it’s “the sort of thing that makes me want to tell people everything I know.” Martin has long since retired from banking and no longer lives in Elberton, yet he’s still the Guidestones’ official and only secret keeper. “But I can’t tell,” the old man quickly adds. “I made a promise.” Martin also made a promise to destroy all the records of his dealings with Christian, though he hasn’t kept that one at least not yet. In the back of his garage is a large plastic bin (actually, the hard-sided case of an IBM computer he bought back in 1983) stuffed with every document connected to the Guidestones that ever came into his possession, including the letters from Christian.

For years Martin thought he might write a book, but now he knows he probably won’t. What he also won’t do is allow me to look through the papers. When I ask whether he’s prepared to take what he knows to his grave, Martin replies that Christian would want him to do just that: “All along, he said that who he was and where he came from had to be kept a secret. He said mysteries work that way. If you want to keep people interested, you can let them know only so much.” The rest is enshrouded in the vast sunny stillness.

Mystery places: Eternal Silence (sculpture)

This mystery place has a sculpture, which is very haunting and we don’t know what it is about. So here is a Eternal Silence:

According to folklore looking into the eyes of the statue will give the viewer a vision of their own death.
Location: Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA
Built: 1909
Built by: Jules Bercham
Architectural style: Art Nouveau
Sculptor: Lorado Taft
Governing body: Graceland Cemetery
Part of: Graceland Cemetery (#00001628)
Added to NRHP: January 18, 2001

Eternal Silence, alternatively known as the Dexter Graves Monument or the Statue of Death,[1] is a monument in Chicago’sGraceland Cemetery. It is a bronze sculpture set on and backdropped by black granite. It was created by American sculptor Lorado Taft in 1909.

History

Eternal Silence is a monument in Graceland Cemetery to Dexter Graves, who led a group of thirteen families who moved to Chicago from Ohio in 1831.[2] He died in 1844, and the monument was commissioned from sculptor Lorado Taft in 1909 by Graves’ son Henry Graves.[3] In Ada Bartlett Taft’s 1946 Lorado Taft; Sculptor and Citizen, it was listed as one of his most important works.[4] Images of Eternal Silence have been used in other artworks, including works by Claes Oldenburg.[4] One folktale claims that if an unsuspecting viewer were to look into the eyes of Eternal Silence’s hooded figure, the viewer would be shown a vision of his or her own death.[1]

Design

Hooded bronze figure

Eternal Silence has been called “eerie”,[3] “somber”,[3] “grim-looking”,[5] “mysterious”,[6] and “haunting”.[6] The bronze figure, based on traditional depictions of the Grim Reaper, is set against a black granite base and stands ten feet tall upon that base.[3] The black granite provides contrast for the bronze statue, which is heavily oxidized because of its age.[3][7] The hooded figure was influenced by Taft’s own “ideas on death and silence”.[4] Historically speaking, the figure in Eternal Silence is related to the sculpted funeral procession around the tomb of Philip the Bold in Dijon, France and the Adams Memorial by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in Washington, D.C.[4] The statue is considered famous and has been noted as Graceland Cemetery’s most “unforgettable” monument.[1][3][7] The monument was designed by Taft and cast by Jules Bercham.[8][9] On its base, Taft inscribed the north side with his signature; the south side is inscribed with Am. Art Bronze Foundry J. Bercham -Chicago-.[3] The monument falls within Art Nouveau style.[4]

Here is something about the sculptor Lorado Taft:

Field Sculpture

Lorado Zadoc Taft (April 29, 1860 – October 30, 1936) was an American sculptor, writer and educator. Taft was born in Elmwood, Illinois in 1860 and died in his home studio in Chicago in 1936.[1]

Early years and education

After being homeschooled by his parents, Taft earned his bachelor’s degree (1879) and master’s degree (1880) from the University of Illinois where his father was a professor of geology.[2] The same year he left for Paris to study sculpture, he continued to maintain his connections with the university in Urbana and his sculpture of Alma Mater at Urbana has come to symbolize something significant.[citation needed]

In Paris, Taft attended the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts from 1880 to 1883, where he studied with Augustin Dumont, Jean-Marie Bonnassieux and Jules Thomas. His record there was outstanding; he was cited as “top man” in his studio and twice exhibited at the Salon. Upon returning to the United States in 1886 he settled in Chicago. He taught at the Art Institute of Chicago, a post he was to remain at until 1929. In addition to work in clay and plaster, Taft taught his students marble carving, and had them work on group projects. He also lectured at the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois.[3]

In 1892, while the art community of Chicago was preparing for the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893, chief architect Daniel Burnham expressed concern to Taft that the sculptural adornments to the buildings might not be finished on time. Taft asked if he could employ some of his female students as assistants (it was not socially accepted for women to work as sculptors at that time) for the Horticultural Building, Burnham responded with the classic reply, “Hire anyone, even white rabbits if they’ll do the work.” From that arose a group of talented women sculptors who were to retain the name “the White Rabbits.” These included Enid Yandell, Carol Brooks MacNeil, Bessie Potter Vonnoh, Janet Scudder, and Julia Bracken. Later another former successful student who emigrated to Canada, Frances Loring, noted that Taft used his students’ talents to further his own career, a not uncommon observation by students regarding their teachers. In general, history has given Taft credit for helping to advance the status of women as sculptors.

In 1898, Taft was a founding member of the Eagle’s Nest Art Colony in the small town of Oregon, Illinois. Taft designed the Columbus Fountain at Union Station in Washington, D.C., in collaboration with Daniel Burnham.

Later years

In 1903 Taft published The History of American Sculpture, the first survey of the subject. In some settings, Taft is perhaps better known for his published writings than for his sculpture. The revised 1925 version of this text was to remain the standard reference on this subject until Wayne Craven published “Sculpture in America” in 1968. Taft also wrote Modern Tendencies in Sculpture (1921).

As Taft grew older, his eloquent speaking skills and compelling writing led him, along with Frederick Ruckstull, to the forefront of sculpture’s conservative ranks, where he often served as a spokesperson against the modern and abstract trends which developed in sculpture during his lifetime. Taft’s frequent lecture tours for the Chautauqua also gave him a broad, popular celebrity status in this period.

In 1921, Taft published Modern Tendencies in Sculpture, a compilation of his lectures given at the Art Institute of Chicago. The book continues to be regarded as an excellent survey of American sculpture in the early years of the 20th century; and it offered a distinct perspective on the development of European sculpture at that time.

Taft was a member of the National Academy of Design, the National Institute of Arts and Letters, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters; he headed the National Sculpture Society in the 1920s and served on the Board of Art Advisors of Illinois. He received numerous awards, prizes, and honorary degrees, served on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts from 1925 to 1929, and was an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects. His papers reside in collections at the Smithsonian Archives of American Art, the University of Illinois, and the Art Institute of Chicago.[4].

Taft was active until the end of his life. The week before he died, he attended the Quincy, Illinois dedication ceremonies for his sculpture celebrating the Lincoln-Douglas debates.[1]

He left unfinished a vast work to be called the “Fountain of Creation” which he planned to place at the opposite end of the Chicago Midway from the “Fountain of Time.”[5] Parts of this work were donated to the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and are now at the library and Foellinger Auditorium. The University named a dormitory and a street in Taft’s honor.[6]

Sculptor’s body of work

Lorado Taft was a member of the National Sculpture Society and exhibited at both their 1923 and 1929 shows. Today Taft is best remembered for his various fountains.

Following more than a dozen years of work, Taft’s Fountain of Time was unveiled at the west end of Chicago’s Midway Plaisance in 1922. Based on poet Austin Dobson‘s lines – “Time goes, you say? Ah no, Alas, time stays, we go.” – the fountain shows a cloaked figure of time observing the stream of humanity flowing past.

Pioneer & Patriot Groups for the Louisiana State Capitol Building

The last major commission that Taft was to complete in his life was two groups for the front entrance to the Louisiana State Capitol Building, dedicated in 1932.

Here’s a YouTube mini document about Taft’s statues:

So here you have a nice little mystery place called “Eternal Silence”. Check it out if you live nearby.

Secret Sites part V, Area 51

Area 51

This, not so secret site anymore, has so many secrets that it’s almost impossible to tell the whole story. Main fact is that the US has developed many secret aircrafts on that site and they have tried to cover it up. I think that many UFO theories can be explained with these exotic aircrafts. First brief info of the area:

Area 51 (also known as Groom Lake,[1] or Dreamland) is a remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base. According to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the correct names for the Area 51 facility are the Nevada Test and Training Range and Groom Lake,[2] though the name Area 51 has been used in official CIA documentation.[3] Other names used for the facility include Dreamland,[4]Paradise Ranch,[5][6]Home Base, Watertown Strip,[7] and most recently Homey Airport.[8] The area around the field is referred to as (R-4808N),[9]

It is located in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States, 83 miles (133 km) north-northwest of Las Vegas. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of Groom Lake, is a large military airfield. The base’s current primary purpose is officially undetermined; however, based on historical evidence, it most likely supports development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems.[10] The intense secrecy surrounding the base has made it the frequent subject of conspiracy theories and a central component to unidentified flying object (UFO) folklore.[6][11] Everything that happens at Area 51 is classified Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).[6]

Geography

Area 51

The original rectangular base of 6 by 10 miles (9.7 by 16 km) is now part of the so-called “Groom box”, a rectangular area measuring 23 by 25 miles (37 by 40 km), of restricted airspace. The area is connected to the internal NTS road network, with paved roads leading south to Mercury and west to Yucca Flat. Leading northeast from the lake, the wide and well-maintained Groom Lake Road runs through a pass in the Jumbled Hills. The road formerly led to mines in the Groom basin, but has been improved since their closure. Its winding course runs past a security checkpoint, but the restricted area around the base extends further east. After leaving the restricted area, Groom Lake Road descends eastward to the floor of the Tikaboo Valley, passing the dirt-road entrances to several small ranches, before converging with State Route 375, the “Extraterrestrial Highway”,[12] south of Rachel.

Area 51 shares a border with the Yucca Flat region of the Nevada Test Site (NTS), the location of 739 of the 928 nuclear tests conducted by the United States Department of Energy at NTS.[13][14][15] The Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository is 44 miles (71 km) southwest of Groom Lake.

Groom Lake

Groom Lake is a salt flat in Nevada used for runways of the Nellis Bombing Range Test Site airport (KXTA) on the north of the Area 51 USAF military installation. The lake at 4,409 ft (1,344 m)[16] elevation is approximately 3.7 miles (6.0 km) from north to south and 3 miles (4.8 km) from east to west at its widest point. Located within the namesake Groom Lake Valley portion of the Tonopah Basin, the lake is northeast of Papoose Lake‘s S-4 (Sector Four) location and ~25 mi (40 km) south of Rachel, Nevada.

History

Groom Lake

Lead and silver were discovered in the southern part of the Groom Range in 1864,[17] and the EnglishGroome Lead Mines Limited company financed the Conception Mines in the 1870s, giving the district its name (nearby mines included Maria, Willow and White Lake). Also, the historical town of Rosswell was located here until evacuation of the US Military.[18] The interests in Groom were acquired by J. B. Osborne and partners and patented in 1876, and his son acquired the interests in the 1890s.[18] Claims were incorporated as two 1916 companies with mining continuing until 1918 and resuming after World War II until the early 1950s.[18]

World War II

The airfield on the Groom Lake site began service in 1942 as Indian Springs Airforce Auxiliary Field,[19] and consisted of two dirt 5000′ runways aligned NE/SW, NW/SE 37°16′35″N 115°45′20″W. The airfield may have been used for bombing and artillery practice; bomb craters are still visible in the vicinity.[20]

U-2 program

Main article: Lockheed U-2

The Groom Lake test facility was established by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for Project Aquatone, the development of the Lockheed U-2 strategic reconnaissance aircraft in April 1955.

As part of the project, the director, Richard M. Bissell Jr., understood that, given the extreme secrecy enveloping the project, the flight test and pilot training programs could not be conducted at Edwards Air Force Base or Lockheed’s Palmdale facility. A search for a suitable testing site for the U-2 was conducted under the same extreme security as the rest of the project.[21]

He notified Lockheed, who sent an inspection team out to Groom Lake. According to Kelly Johnson:[21]

“… We flew over it and within thirty seconds, you knew that was the place … it was right by a dry lake. Man alive, we looked at that lake, and we all looked at each other. It was another Edwards, so we wheeled around, landed on that lake, taxied up to one end of it. It was a perfect natural landing field … as smooth as a billiard table without anything being done to it”. Johnson used a compass to lay out the direction of the first runway. The place was called “Groom Lake.”

The lakebed made an ideal strip from which they could operate the troublesome test aircraft, and the Emigrant Valley’s mountain ranges and the NTS perimeter protected the test site from prying eyes and outside interference about 100 miles north of Las Vegas.[22]

On 4 May 1955, a survey team arrived at Groom Lake and laid out a 5,000-foot (1,500 m), north-south runway on the southwest corner of the lakebed and designated a site for a base support facility. The new airfield, then known as Site II or “The Ranch”, initially consisted of little more than a few shelters, workshops and trailer homes in which to house its small team.[22] In a little over three months, the base consisted of a single, paved runway, three hangars, a control tower, and rudimentary accommodations for test personnel. The base’s few amenities included a movie theatre and volleyball court. Additionally, there was a mess hall, several water wells, and fuel storage tanks. By July 1955, CIA, Air Force, and Lockheed personnel began arriving. The Ranch received its first U-2 delivery on 24 July 1955 from Burbank on a C-124 Globemaster II cargo plane, accompanied by Lockheed technicians on a Douglas DC-3.[22]

OXCART program

A-12 during radar testing at Groom Lake

Even before U-2 development was complete, Lockheed began work on its successor as part of the CIA’s OXCART project, involving the A-12, a Mach-3 high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft – a later variant of which became the famed USAF SR-71 Blackbird.

As with the previous U-2 program, security requirements of the Oxcart project necessitated an obscure, secret location for A-12 testing. Despite the success of the U-2 flight tests and the OXCART mock-up radar tests, Groom Lake was not initially considered. It was a “Wild West” outpost, with primitive facilities for only 150 people. The A-12 test program would require more than ten times that number. Groom Lake’s five-thousand foot asphalt runway was both too short and unable to support the weight of the Oxcart. The fuel supply, hangar space, and shop space were all inadequate.[21]

Ten Air Force bases programmed for closure were considered, but all were rejected. The site had to be away from any cities and military or civilian airways to prevent sightings. It also had to have good weather, the necessary housing and fuel supplies, and an eighty-five-hundred-foot runway. None of the air force bases met the security requirements, although, for a time, Edwards Air Force Base was considered. In the end, Groom Lake was the only possibility from the standpoint of security but its short runway and austere facilities meant a major upgrade would be required before Oxcart A-12 testing could commence. Groom Lake had also, by this time, received a new official name. The Nevada nuclear test site was divided into several numbered areas. To blend in, Groom Lake became “Area 51.”[21]

This aircraft flight characteristics and maintenance requirements forced a massive expansion of facilities and runways at Groom Lake. On 1 October 1960, Reynolds Electrical and Engineering Company (REECo) began work on the site, referred to as “Project 51”. Workers engaged in double-shift construction schedules for the next four years to overhaul and upgrade base facilities, and also expand the existing runway to 8,500-foot (2,600 m) as well as harden the existing runway to support the heavier A-12. In addition, a new 10,000-foot runway was constructed (14/32) diagonally across the southwest corner of the lakebed. An Archimedes curve approximately two miles across was marked on the dry lake so that an A-12 pilot approaching the end of the overrun could abort to the playa instead of plunging the aircraft into the sagebrush. Area 51 pilots called it “The Hook.” For crosswind landings two unpaved airstrips (runways 9/27 and 03/21) were marked on the dry lakebed.[23]

By August 1961, construction of the essential facilities was completed. The United States Navy supplied three surplus hangars which were erected on the base’s north side. They were designated as Hangar 4, 5, and 6. A fourth, Hangar 7, was new construction. The original U-2 hangars were converted to maintenance and machine shops. Facilities in the main cantonment area included workshops and buildings for storage and administration, a commissary, control tower, fire station, and housing. The Navy also contributed more than 130 surplus Babbitt duplex housing units for long-term occupancy facilities. Older buildings were repaired, and additional facilities were constructed as necessary. A reservoir pond, surrounded by trees, served as a recreational area one mile north of the base. Other recreational facilities included a gymnasium, movie theatre, and a baseball diamond.[23] A permanent aircraft fuel tank farm was constructed by early 1962 for the special JP-7 fuel required by the A-12. Seven tanks were constructed, with a total capacity of 1,320,000-gallons.

Preparations began for the arrival of OXCART; security was greatly enhanced, and the small civilian mine in the Groom basin was closed. In January 1962, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expanded the restricted airspace in the vicinity of Groom Lake. The lakebed became the center of a 600-square-mile addition to restricted area R-4808N. Restricted continuously at all altitudes, the airspace occupies the center of the Nellis Air Force Range.[23]

Although remaining under the jurisdiction of the CIA, the facility received eight USAF F-101 Voodoos for training, two T-33 Shooting Star trainers for proficiency flying, a C-130 Hercules for cargo transport, a U-3A for administrative purposes, a helicopter for search and rescue, and a Cessna 180 for liaison use; and Lockheed provided an F-104 Starfighter for use as a chase plane.[23]

The first OXCART was covertly trucked to the base in February 1962, assembled, and it made its first flight 26 April 1962. At the time, the base boasted a complement of over 1,000 personnel. It had fueling tanks, a control tower, and a baseball diamond. The A-12 was a large, loud, and distinctive-looking aircraft. During the early test flights, the CIA tried to limit the number of people who saw the aircraft. All those at Groom Lake not connected with the Oxcart program were herded into the mess hall before each takeoff. This was soon dropped as it disrupted activities and was impractical with the large number of flights.[21]

Although the airspace above Groom Lake was closed, it was near busy Nellis Air Force Base. Inevitably, there were sightings. Some Nellis pilots saw the A-12 several times. At least one NASA test pilot from Edwards AFB saw an A-12. He radioed the Edwards tower and asked what it was. He was curtly told to halt transmissions. After landing, he was told what he had seen was vital to U.S. security. He also signed a secrecy agreement. The major source of A-12 sightings was airline pilots. It is believed that twenty to thirty airline sightings were made. One American Airlines pilot saw an A-12 twice. During one sighting, a pilot saw an A-12 and two chase planes; he radioed, “I see a goose and two goslings.”[21]

Groom saw the first flight of most major Blackbird variants: A-12, the abortive YF-12A interceptor variant designed to intercept Soviet manned bombers, and the D-21 Blackbird-based drone project. By the end of 1963, nine A-12s were at Area 51, assigned to the CIA operated “1129th Special Activities Squadron”.[24] A mock-up of the “Reconnaissance Strike-71” (RS-71) was inspected by the Air Force on 4 June 1962. The concept of a strike A-12 with strategic bombing capabilities ran into political problems from both the Air Force, which was involved with the XB-70 Valkyrie program at the time and a lack of enthusiasm from Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara. McNamara and his “whiz kids” saw no need for additional manned bombers in the age of ICBMs. In addition McNamara was phasing down Air Defense Command and saw no use for the YF-12A Interceptor. Accordingly, only the reconnaissance version of the RS-71 remained (it kept the “strike” part of the name, however). Where the A-12 was designed for clandestine overflights of Soviet territory, the RS-71 carried additional side-looking cameras and other sensors which gave it much greater capabilities. On 27–28 December 1962, a contract was issued to Lockheed to build six test RS-71s.[21]

According to legend, President Lyndon B. Johnson asked an aide soon upon taking office after the Kennedy Assassination what the RS-71 was for. The aide responded, “strategic reconnaissance”. Thus, when Johnson announced the existence of a new reconnaissance aircraft, on 24 July 1964, President Johnson called it the “SR-71”. President Johnson’s announcements created an unusual security situation. While the USAF SR-71 project was a “White” or open project, the CIA’s A-12 was not. Its existence would remain a secret until 1981. To maintain the secret, all those involved were told of the coming SR-71 announcement and warned to keep the A-12 separate.[21]

The SR-71 first flew at the Lockheed facilities at Palmdale, California in December 1964, and Palmdale and Edwards AFB served as the primary operation sites for that model. The 4200th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing activated at Beale AFB on 1 January 1965, however the first SR-71 did not arrive until 7 January 1966.

Starting in November 1965, even as the A-12 was declared operational for use by the CIA and planning was made for its use, doubts were expressed about the cost of operating the two separate groups of A-12s and SR-71s. After a year or more of debate, it was decided on 10 January 1967, to phase out the CIA A-12 program. Although the Oxcart was gone, its USAF descendant, the SR-71, would continue to fly intelligence missions for the next 22 years. Finally, in 1990, the SR-71 was retired.[21]

The A-12s would remain at Groom Lake until 1968 and occasionally were deployed to Kadena AB, Okinawa.[3][24] The CIA’s nine remaining A-12s were placed in storage at Palmdale in June 1968 and the 1129th SAS was inactivated.[24] All surviving aircraft remained there for nearly 20 years before being sent to museums around the United States.

Have Blue/F-117 program

Underside view of Have Blue

F-117 flying over mountains

The Lockheed Have Blue prototype stealth fighter (a smaller proof-of-concept model of the F-117 Nighthawk) first flew at Groom in December 1977.[26]

In 1978, the Air Force awarded a full-scale development contract for the F-117 to Lockheed Corporation’s Advanced Development Projects. On 17 January 1981 the Lockheed test team at Area 51 accepted delivery of the first full Scale Development (FSD) prototype 79–780, designated YF-117A. At 6:05 am on 18 June 1981 Lockheed Skunk Works test pilot Hal Farley lifted the nose of YF-117A 79–780′ off the runway of Area 51.[27]

Meanwhile, Tactical Air Command (TAC) decided to set up a group-level organization to guide the F-117A to an initial operating capability. That organization became the 4450th Tactical Group (Initially designated “A Unit”), which officially activated on 15 October 1979 at Nellis AFB, Nevada, although the group was physically located at Area 51. The 4450th TG also operated the A-7D Corsair II as a surrogate trainer for the F-117A, and these operations continued until 15 October 1982 under the guise of an avionics test mission.[27]

Flying squadrons of the 4450th TG were the 4450th Tactical Squadron (Initially designated “I Unit”) activated on 11 June 1981, and 4451st Tactical Squadron (Initially designated “P Unit”) on 15 January 1983. The 4450th TS, stationed at Area 51, was the first F-117A squadron, while the 4451st TS was stationed at Nellis AFB and was equipped with A-7D Corsair IIs painted in a dark motif, tail coded “LV”. Lockheed test pilots put the YF-117 through its early paces. A-7Ds was used for pilot training before any F-117A’s had been delivered by Lockheed to Area 51, later the A-7D’s were used for F-117A chase testing and other weapon tests at the Nellis Range.

15 October 1982 is important to the program because on that date Major Alton C. Whitley, Jr. became the first USAF 4450th TG pilot to fly the F-117A.[27]

Although ideal for testing, Area 51 was not a suitable location for an operational group, so a new covert base had to be established for F-117 operations.[28]Tonopah Test Range Airport was selected for operations of the first USAF F-117 unit, the 4450th Tactical Group (TG).[29] From October 1979, the Tonopah Airport base was reconstructed and expanded. The 6,000 ft runway was lengthened to 10,000 ft. Taxiways, a concrete apron, a large maintenance hangar, and a propane storage tank were added.[30]

By early 1982, four more YF-117A airplanes were operating out of the southern end of the base, known as the “Southend” or “Baja Groom Lake.” After finding a large scorpion in their offices, the testing team (Designated “R Unit”) adopted it as their mascot and dubbed themselves the “Baja Scorpions.” Testing of a series of ultra-secret prototypes continued at Area 51 until mid-1981, when testing transitioned to the initial production of F-117 stealth fighters. The F-117s were moved to and from Area 51 by C-5 under the cloak of darkness, in order to maintain program security. This meant that the aircraft had to be defueled, disassembled, cradled, and then loaded aboard the C-5 at night, flown to Lockheed, and unloaded at night before the real work could begin. Of course, this meant that the reverse actions had to occur at the end of the depot work before the aircraft could be reassembled, flight-tested, and redelivered, again under the cover of darkness. In addition to flight-testing, Groom performed radar profiling, F-117 weapons testing, and was the location for training of the first group of frontline USAF F-117 pilots.

Production FSD airframes from Lockheed were shipped to Area 51 for acceptance testing. As the Baja Scorpions tested the aircraft with functional check flights and L.O. verification, the operational airplanes were then transferred to the 4450th TG.[31]

On 17 May 1982, the move of the 4450th TG from Groom Lake to Tonoaph was initiated, with the final components of the move completed in early 1983. Production FSD airframes from Lockheed were shipped to Area 51 for acceptance testing. As the Baja Scorpions tested the aircraft with functional check flights and L.O. verification, the operational airplanes were then transferred to the 4450th TG at Tonopah. [31]

The R-Unit was inactivated on 30 May 1989. Upon deactivated the unit was reformed as reformed as Detachment 1, 57th Fighter Weapons Wing (FWW). In 1990 the last F-117A (843) was delivered from Lockheed. After completion of acceptance flights at Area 51 of this last new F-117A aircraft, the flight test squadron continued flight test duties of refurbished aircraft after modifications by Lockheed. In February/March 1992 the test unit moved from Area 51 to the USAF Palmdale Plant 42 and was integrated with the Air Force Systems Command6510th Test Squadron. Some testing, especially RCS verification and other classified activity was still conducted at Area 51 throughout the operational lifetime of the F-117. The recently inactivated (2008) 410th Flight Test Squadron traces its roots, if not its formal lineage to the 4450th TG R-unit. [31]

UFO and other conspiracy theories

Its secretive nature and undoubted connection to classified aircraft research, together with reports of unusual phenomena, have led Area 51 to become a focus of modern UFO and conspiracy theories.[citation needed] Some of the activities mentioned in such theories at Area 51 include:

Many of the hypotheses concern underground facilities at Groom or at Papoose Lake (AKA “S-4 location”), 8.5 miles (13.7 km) south, and include claims of a transcontinental underground railroad system, a disappearing airstrip (nicknamed the “Cheshire Airstrip”, after Lewis Carroll‘s Cheshire cat) which briefly appears when water is sprayed onto its camouflaged asphalt,[49] and engineering based on alien technology. Publicly available satellite imagery, however, reveals clearly visible landing strips at Groom Dry Lake, but not at Papoose Lake.

Veterans of experimental projects such as OXCART and NERVA at Area 51 agree that their work (including 2,850 OXCART test flights alone) inadvertently prompted many of the UFO sightings and other rumors:[6]

The shape of OXCART was unprecedented, with its wide, disk-like fuselage designed to carry vast quantities of fuel. Commercial pilots cruising over Nevada at dusk would look up and see the bottom of OXCART whiz by at 2,000-plus mph. The aircraft’s titanium body, moving as fast as a bullet, would reflect the sun’s rays in a way that could make anyone think, UFO.[6]

They believe that the rumors helped maintain secrecy over Area 51’s actual operations.[11] While the veterans deny the existence of a vast underground railroad system, many of Area 51’s operations did (and presumably still do) occur underground.[6]

  • Bob Lazar
see: S-4 (facility) for further information
Several people have claimed knowledge of events supporting Area 51 conspiracy theories. These have included Bob Lazar, who claimed in 1989 that he had worked at Area 51’s “Sector Four (S-4)”, said to be located underground inside the Papoose Range near Papoose Lake. Lazar has stated he was contracted to work with alien spacecraft that the U.S. government had in its possession.[50]
  • Bruce Burgess
Similarly, the 1996 documentary Dreamland directed by Bruce Burgess included an interview with a 71 year old mechanical engineer who claimed to be a former employee at Area 51 during the 1950s. His claims included that he had worked on a “flying disc simulator” which had been based on a disc originating from a crashed extraterrestrial craft and was used to train US Pilots. He also claimed to have worked with an extraterrestrial being named “J-Rod” and described as a “telepathic translator”.[51]
  • Dan Burisch
In 2004, Dan Burisch (pseudonym of Dan Crain) claimed to have worked on cloning alien viruses at Area 51, also alongside the alien named “J-Rod”. Burisch’s scholarly credentials are the subject of much debate, as he was apparently working as a Las Vegas parole officer in 1989 while also earning a PhD at SUNY.[52]

Then we have to add some “looney” stuff here. I found a discussion where founder of Scientology Ron Hubbard talks about Area 51, great stuff:

AREA 51 (ENGLISH)

Medium: Jorge Olguin.
Interlocutor: Horacio Velmont.
Entity to talk: Ron Hubbard, founder of Dianetics and Scientology.

Questioner: You bring prepared an array of questions about the Area 51, that although we have already spoken something I would go deeper, because there is much confusion on the subject.

Ron Hubbard: Right. You can start the questions.

Interlocutor: Okay. The first thing I ask is about the underground construction. There is talk that there are many places on the planet that are in conjunction with Area 51, for example in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Antarctica, etc.

Ron Hubbard: In countries you name are alien bases as well as elsewhere in the world, but not in combination with Area 51.

Questioner: Are separate alien bases?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, and even the United States is not aware of its existence. In this case, when I say U.S. I mean very deep strata of the U.S. government, because government agencies do not know anything official about it.

Questioner: I understand. But no country that is in conjunction with Area 51?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, there are only two: Puerto Rico and Russia, and the latter through a base which is in Siberia.

Questioner: Russia is in combination with the same aliens than the U.S.?

Ron Hubbard: So, are the same.

Questioner: We are always talking about very deep strata?

Ron Hubbard: Yes. I reiterate that at the official level these things are ignored.

Questioner: The aliens are called “Grey”?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, but other races have appeared. A call Blacks.

Questioner: Where did they come from?

Ron Hubbard: They come from a star called Albex.

Questioner: How far is it?

Ron Hubbard: About a thousand light years.

Interlocutor: Quite far from us, I see.

Ron Hubbard: Quite far away to our standards of measurement, but not for them.

Questioner: I understand. Are these aliens Blacks are in combination with both Russia and the United States?

Ron Hubbard: Yes. There is a third race that is very similar to the Greys, but whose skin is a little darker. Are directly predators. They are completely out jaw, teeth visible, and less common the Grey skull.

Questioner: Do they belong to the animal kingdom as Langar, Arthur Constellation?

Ron Hubbard: No, they are humanoids.

Questioner: How many types of Greys are there?

Ron Hubbard: There are four types of Greys. And most will call a race Predator. These predators have taken their pictures, even circulating on the Net

Interlocutor: Let’s see if I understand: There are seven races of aliens working with the United States and Russia, ie, two types of Black, Grey and four types of single-race of Predators.

Ron Hubbard: Counting the Langar are eight.

Questioner: And the antheanos? I refer to the race that crashed in Roswell.

Ron Hubbard: At antheanos include them as one of the types of Greys.

Questioner: I understand. Did some alien races working together and are all independent?

Ron Hubbard: No, not all independent. Some are in combination, but most compete. In addition, Langar, as you know, were captured and subjected because his ship crashed. In addition, we extracted technology.

Questioner: What is achieved with this technology?

Ron Hubbard: They were able, for example, building a protective energy shield.

Questioner: When you say you are “extracted” do you mean?

Ron Hubbard: I use that word because the Langar had never voluntarily shared with terrestrial technology.

Questioner: Do you mean that forced them to deliver?

Ron Hubbard: Yes.

Questioner: So the Langar are imprisoned at Area 51?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, but now there are very few and have not been reproduced.

Questioner: In the Area 51 aliens are other prisoners in addition to the Langar?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, of course.

Questioner: I’m wondering why his peers have not abducted by teleportation, a technique that any alien has.

Ron Hubbard: The answer is simple. As I just said, Americans have designed an energy shield based on the ship that had troubled the Langar and the shield prevents teleportation.

Questioner: Does this coat fits all alien teleportation device?

Ron Hubbard: Suitable for all teleportation device, whatever its origin. The system works through molecular transportation, and it can not be done if there is an energy barrier.

Questioner: Of course. How many aliens, counting all races, there are at Area 51? I read that it is estimated that around 18,000.

Ron Hubbard: No, there are many. There will be a tenth, about 1800.

Interlocutor: Including all races?

Ron Hubbard: Yes.

Questioner: At this time I remember something I wanted to ask and I forgot to write: “How far is the ship of the aliens who abduct women in the case which has been called” The dead women of Juarez?

Ron Hubbard: The spacecraft is about a hundred and fifty miles high, which is relatively close distance.

Questioner: And the United States could not reach it?

Ron Hubbard: No, because if they send a rocket, the spacecraft automatically change of place and the bullet would pass.

Interlocutor: Related to the issue of the dead women of Juarez I ask a hypothetical question: If in Ciudad Juárez was common knowledge that those who are behind these killings are aliens, are these aliens to be discovered, would they go? I ask because for now they are working in anonymity, as the authorities blame the Mafia, the same police force, and even satanic sects.

Ron Hubbard: No, absolutely not, continue with their activities as usual. Only stir up the people of Juarez, for his people organized the-clock surveillance, hoping they could prevent abductions.

Questioner: I could be of any use?

Ron Hubbard: No, not really. Whatever you do, the aliens simply disallowed.

Questioner: The point is clear. Continuing with Area 51. This place has seven levels as some ufologists?

Ron Hubbard: The information is partially correct. The area in thirty years has grown tremendously. Area 51 began to form long after the shuttle accident antheana in Roswell. Seven years after this incident began to form a testing area, which competed directly against the Russians. This was in 1954. In 1958, America had an aircraft that could not be detected by radar. This aircraft was named Black Delta Wing. Is very similar to the current year, 2003, but we are talking about 1958. He had brought an energy shield.

Questioner: That shield was alien technology?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, he had extracted a ship Langar. But what happened was that the alloy of the metals of these aircraft was not compatible with the energy of the ships Langar, and then had a very limited life.

Questioner: A few years?

Ron Hubbard: No, I’m just talking about months. After two or three months, the metal began to deteriorate.

Questioner: How curious! I say curious because it seems to me an absolute outrage so expensive to build machines so little time. Speaking of alien technology, many have asked me what gadgets we have from them and not our inventors. But first I want to know what concept, ie if the technology we have extracted by force or by trade.

Ron Hubbard: In both ways, but most directly by exchange. There is a scientist named Robert Lazar, who then fought with his superiors, who has disclosed many secrets. Among them, for example, that a race of the Grays have been given an anti-gravity field, where the ships do not require motors or motor atomic solar because they are directly managed using the planet’s gravity.

Interlocutor: Is something like that or get closer to the planet with ships that do not nullify or gravitational field?

Ron Hubbard: Right. Networks are managed with antigravity. The devices are antigravity and antimatter fuel. This fuel was given by one of the races of Negros. The two races of Blacks working in cooperation with the four races of Grays.

Earth scientists knew, like everyone else, that gravity attracts. So they had to find an item where gravity excluded, ie, did the effect of repulsion, and with ordinary matter that could not be achieved.

This element excludes Blacks gave it, because Gray did not want to give it.

Interlocutor: What gave the Negroes? Any type of fuel?

Ron Hubbard: The Black gave him the formula to create antimatter.

Questioner: Is not it dangerous to touch the matter with antimatter?

Ron Hubbard: Absolutely. But antimatter is the wraps, so to speak, protective energy charges, because if matter and antimatter touch, ie positively charged and negatively charged, larger outbreaks would have the same atomic explosions.

By isolating the matter of antimatter via energy fields the result is that anyone can handle and nothing happens.

Questioner: How do you use the antimatter?

Ron Hubbard: That the use antimatter as fuel engine gravity, creating a repulsive effect that is controlled by a device called “micronómetros” which are like wheels that are turning and opening the floodgates for antimatter make its effect.

In this way, ships can develop tremendous speeds through the nadis.

This information has never been given and is quite a scoop.

Questioner: The nadis are openings dimensional?

Ron Hubbard: No, they are like power lines. Just as humans have nadis, the planet also has nadis, and the same solar system and galaxies. It is similar to a giant spider web, where the strings would be the nadis, which are created ring fields.

Questioner: dimensional openings are where nadis intersect?

Ron Hubbard: Right, but let’s leave aside for now and talk dimensional openings laying of the nadis as if they were railroad tracks.

There is a nadis between the Sun and Alpha Centauri. Then, as the Sun’s gravitational field is extremely strong, the ship can take advantage of the system to follow this nadis repulsion at speeds as great as that of light and reach Alpha Centauri in a short time.

Questioner: How interesting! Well, the explanation has been very clear. Do famous black helicopters that speak both ufologists use this technology?

Ron Hubbard: Yes.

Questioner: Is it true, as they say, going at a rate much higher than normal and are used to recover crashed alien spacecraft?

Ron Hubbard: Do not go faster than normal because the metal they use is duralumin, which is harder than it has been on Earth. Duralumin is a mixture of plastic and steel has not been released yet. The harder material has been released is titanium. Titanium is a very heavy and weak compared to the material of construction of the ship itself antheana fell in Roswell in 1947. The antheana ship material is lighter than aluminum.

Questioner: What about those helicopters used to recover aircraft accidents?

Ron Hubbard: The answer is yes, they are used for such purposes.

Interlocutor: What other technology provided the aliens?

Ron Hubbard: A newly discovered material in the laboratory by the scientist that I mentioned, Robert Lazar, using formulas provided by one of the Black race, called “Element 115”. Well, Element 115, antigravity, antimatter, this has been dismissed as true by intelligence officers from Area 51. Lazar said he was a pathological liar, that all he wanted was propaganda, which was not true.

Interlocutor: It is said that there are many who have investigated UFO Area 51 killed and who were also killed many scientists who have been there and who have defected to denounce what they saw there. How true is this?

Ron Hubbard: Right. In the last fifteen years, ie from 1988 to 2003, there were 84 murders.

Interlocutor: What Children have been going crazy?

Ron Hubbard: I actually have not gone crazy but leave parecidamente a catatonic state. We have launched the same energy used to protect aliens. This energy, sent directly to the brain, it melts the decoder.

Interlocutor: Always relying on the reports that have come to light, it is said that there are at least three million people who have chips implanted in their body to control them.

Ron Hubbard: No, not quite three million. An estimated one million eight hundred thousand more or less. But this amount is nothing when compared with people who are currently on the planet, ie seven million in 1200.

Questioner: I think polls that talk about six billion.

Ron Hubbard: These findings have not taken into account the poor countries of Central Africa, and Asia countries. They neglect to India, which has grown tremendously and now spends one billion inhabitants and nine million are not as they think.

Questioner: “Everyone who works at Area 51, and even the aliens themselves have chips implanted in control?

Ron Hubbard: The information is correct. But not necessarily to control their conduct, but to always know where they are.

Questioner: Are the aliens that they exercise this control or monitoring?

Ron Hubbard: No, because they own land, I mean the leaders of these layers deep, as you call them, those who control their employees.

Questioner: Are you telling me that they are not aliens who control the area 51 but their own land?

Ron Hubbard: Yes. It is a fact wrong, because aliens partners, do not rule Area 51.

Questioner: Who implant these chips?

Ron Hubbard: A race of a race of Blacks and Greys. Hierarchs own land but agree with these implants. Suspicious of everyone and are more cruel and more vicious than the aliens themselves. They have friends among the aliens and have no friends among humans.

If for example an assistant to a senior official of these deep strata land-that even the U.S. government thinks that there are “fall from grace on suspicion of it, do not hesitate to remove it. So I say that in Area 51 humans have no friends.

Questioner: U.S. President Bush is aware?

Ron Hubbard: No, not really.

Questioner: But what is a puppet?

Ron Hubbard: Of course!

Interlocutor: I can hardly believe. I do not want any misunderstanding with this and so I repeat the question: “All who are in Area 51 have implants to control or supervision by order of terrestrial or extraterrestrial?

Ron Hubbard: By order of the aliens, but by order of the same land. Not all implants to master, as most are to know where they are, especially when they leave the area, either to visit their families, whether on vacation or on a mission. Through the chip can be easily controlled with a computer about where they stand.

Questioner: Some or all employees in the area?

Ron Hubbard: Everyone without exception. Even their own hierarchs have a chip implanted to lead by example.

Interlocutor: What you told me seems a science fiction movie.

Ron Hubbard: Imagine you are an employee who defected. Computer can locate it even if it is hidden in the most remote part of Australia. And of course they’re going to find and eliminate it directly.

Questioner: Are all employees of Area 51 knows that having an implanted chip?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, because the precondition for being allowed to work there is the implantation of a chip.

Questioner: Where do they put the body?

Ron Hubbard: There are several places: in the occipital, inside the nostrils, wrist, forearm. Depends on several factors.

Questioner: I wonder the reason that Robert Lazar has not been eliminated.

Ron Hubbard: Robert Lazar has the advantage that it is a well-known and the leaders of Area 51 are to avoid having more bad publicity. I say more bad publicity and bad publicity because they have.

Interlocutor: Also, nobody believes Bob Lazar.

Ron Hubbard: That’s another advantage it has.

Interlocutor: Now I wanted to ask for the case of Christa Milton, who was abducted in July 1987.

Ron Hubbard: This is a case in which the leaders are mixed at Area 51 and most cruel race of the Greys, which is the one with the best technology.

Questioner: They went down and took her directly or teleported?

Ron Hubbard: First thought to come to her and take her away, but it was a very difficult situation finally teleported.

Questioner: Where was taken?

Ron Hubbard, was taken to a ship that was at a height of about two kilometers

Questioner: In the case of abductions of women in Juarez, do teleported to a distance of one hundred and fifty miles, that is, to where it was the mother ship? I ask to know how far does the teleportation.

Ron Hubbard: There is no problem with teleporting to that distance, but in the case of women in Juarez were first teleported to a ship that was about two km from Earth and then took them to the mother ship.

Questioner: Teleportation is simply dematerialization and materialization?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, that is. Dematerialized molecules and these molecules are transported to a field of energy.

Questioner: And obviously not disembodied.

Ron Hubbard: No, not disembodied, because the molecules are in the flesh. Teleportation is a molecular transformation to an energy field. But in the spiritual world, that energy field is no less physical. Then the person is alive. The spirit remains. In the 10% spirit is in the field of energy that goes to the ship.

Like you say you turn into a beam of light, and then, through him, the speed of light, you get to a ship that is several kilometers. At that speed your 10% came with that beam of light, because the spirit is no distance. When you rebuild you will again in the flesh, blood, bones, skin, there’s your 10%. And without even realizing dematerialisation and materialisation has suffered.

Interlocutor: Is instant teleportation?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, because at that close range, the speed of light is practically instantaneous. But suppose that the distance away from here to Mars and within six minutes to arrive and reconstruct you. In those six minutes your 10% is aware that he is alive, is aware that it is meat, skin, bones, etc. Feel the touch, feel everything, because it realizes that it is being transported molecularly light level.

Questioner: The explanation is very clear, Maestro. But why Christa abdujeron Milton?

Ron Hubbard: In principle you have had a brain implant to control and it has been tested at gynecological.

Interlocutor: a biopsy?

Ron Hubbard: Yes.

Interlocutor: What you say agrees with what this woman said to the effect that after the operation saw blood coming from her vagina, as if he had reached the period. But why they did these tests?

Ron Hubbard: They studied the DNA to see if the egg was able to be fertilized by a sperm alien.

Questioner: Through normal copulation?

Ron Hubbard: No, through the implantation of eggs.

Questioner: Did they?

Ron Hubbard: No, because they discovered it was not compatible.

Questioner: What would have made it if it were compatible?

Ron Hubbard: If there had been compatible as pregnant and was about to give birth again and it had abducted the child had been removed. Had they not left.

Questioner: How did many times with other women.

Ron Hubbard: Sure.

Questioner: And the doctors could not have discovered something strange in the fetus outside the normal human fetuses?

Ron Hubbard: No, because there is not much difference in embryos and fetuses when they are in training. In a totally alien fetus perhaps yes, but this would not be the case that a fetus would be half human and half alien.

Questioner: Who’s going to mate? I mean, how they were going to inseminate semen.

Ron Hubbard: In one of the tall Grays.

Questioner: “These are the tall Grays abduct in the dorms?

Ron Hubbard: Right.

Questioner: When we talk about these tall Grays, we’re talking six-foot giant?

Ron Hubbard: No, of only 1.70 m.

Questioner: Well, I see you are about the height of the average human.

Ron Hubbard: Yes.

Interlocutor: Is abdujeron random?

Ron Hubbard: No, they did prior studies. Never chosen at random.

Questioner: I do not understand is how they did those studies.

Ron Hubbard: Make a reading beam energy.

Interlocutor: What distance?

Ron Hubbard: Just like that. As you can sign up with a weapon with laser-that what you have seen in many science-fiction films, it directly have led an energy beam that you will carry back information to a computer.

Questioner: So what can be done from a distance.

Ron Hubbard: Sure. In the ship’s computer are popping characteristics of the person, skin color, blood type, comes around.

Questioner: I do not understand, then, what drove her to the ship, since the result was negative.

Ron Hubbard: We need to do a biopsy to find out about their DNA, and that they could not do with the beam energy. It’s really great what you can do with this device.

Interlocutor: I guess now this technology also have land in Area 51.

Ron Hubbard: Yes. You can point to such a device, which can even be healing, and lightning hits your skin, bounces back again to its source because it has a double reading, with information, and that information is low to a computer and the display shows all data, even your blood pressure and the diseases they have, diabetes, cholesterol, leukemia, urine, etc.

Questioner: Do not tell me you can even detect the number of red blood!

Ron Hubbard: Yes I tell you! I reiterate that it is an amazing technology.

Interlocutor: Is what the aliens are also vivisectionists with infected women of Juarez?

Ron Hubbard: No, because in this case directly abduct and examinations make on the ship, because DNA can not not get the equipment they have.

Questioner: But can you not know in advance if they are infected or not before you abducted?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, but they do not care if women know before they abduct are infected or not. We find out later and do not care if he dies and then not need to experiment. Simply discarded.

Questioner: You mean that abducted find it easier to directly without previous examinations?

Ron Hubbard: Yes. They care little or no human life.

Questioner: alien surgeons use scalpels and our surgeons or have more sophisticated tools?

Ron Hubbard: No, not the same as the surgeon’s scalpel land because they, I mean in this case the tall Grays, using laser scalpels, which do not require sterilization.

Questioner: But I think here we also have laser scalpels.

Ron Hubbard: Yes, the surgical system is called “laparoscopy”, but it is large appliances. In contrast, the laser scalpel is a high Greys very small micro device, a micro device, very sophisticated.

Questioner: This woman said that when he was in surgery, the operation led by a gray and a human surgeon worked.

Ron Hubbard: That’s right. I mention that at the moment are giving one of the channels encoded a miniseries about the history of the Grays from the year 1047 to 2000. See it if you have a chance.

Questioner: Is it real enough?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, you can say yes.

Questioner: How long do you have?

Ron Hubbard: Twelve hours.

Questioner: So?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, they’re giving weekly. The channel called HBO Olé. The director is Steven Spielberg.

Interlocutor: I’ll consider. “The famous” Men in Black “are always ground and employees of Area 51 and there are aliens?

Ron Hubbard: They are terrestrial and Area 51 employees working with the Grays and the Negro race.

Questioner: Do you dress? I ask because those who have encountered them always portrayed as dark suits, white faces, that is totally out of the ordinary.

Ron Hubbard: Quite the contrary. Men in Black have the appearance of the most common of the Earth, specifically to go unnoticed.

Questioner: That is your look?

Ron Hubbard: Yes.

Questioner: But who are they?

Ron Hubbard: They are just fellow employees who work at Area 51, but they belong to a different department. In fact, everyone who works at Area 51 are “Men in Black.”

Interlocutor: I refer to the Men in Black who visit people outside of Area 51 and intimidate. Do you also kill?

Ron Hubbard: Of course, murder! Not only have the function of bullying. If there is a deserter or someone is bothering too much with complaints, simply send a Man in Black to remove it.

Interlocutor: I guess also the Men in Black have chips implanted.

Ron Hubbard: Yes. And notice the paradox, these Men in Black are prisoners of Area 51!

Questioner: What then is the reason that all describe the Men in Black as being rather strange, pale, zombie-type, as if they had no soul?

Ron Hubbard: That is part of the mythology. Imagine that your office is hidden, and wrong they could hide if a child could detect.

Questioner: I understand. I remember an English author, whose pen name was Lobsang Rampa, one of his books, I do not remember if the third eye or the Doctor of Tibet, or perhaps in one post, made the very telling remark that “Men in Black” could wear any color.

Ron Hubbard: This author was right. Nothing to do with the color black. Those are the real Men in Black. They can dress up an ordinary clerk or a neighborhood grocer. For example, you make a meeting to give a lecture on UFOs and Men in Black can attend and pass unnoticed among the attendees.

Interlocutor: I understood perfectly. Now I question arises: Do we as Elron Group, we take into account the hierarchy of Area 51?

Ron Hubbard: Have you noticed. But they take into account the outcome. What the leaders of the Area 51 is bothered giving precise internal details, which is not the case Elron Group, since what you say can be as credible as Robert Lazar says.

Questioner: In plain language, we considered harmless.

Ron Hubbard: Sure, and you have no followers, as they are handled only by Internet, are not concerned directly.

Questioner: But we watch?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, but it is minimal supervision.

Questioner: I understand. This woman, Christa Milton, says he saw live animals in large boxes and various races of humanoid beings in transparent containers, but could not determine whether they were alive, dead or in suspended animation.

Ron Hubbard, were in suspended animation and the mother ship. There are at least 35 or 36 different extraterrestrial races that have been captured for study. And is not the only person who saw that.

Questioner: In Area 51 there is also something like that?

Ron Hubbard: No, not Area 51. I’m talking about the mother ship of one of the races of Grays.

Questioner: In the same ship where she underwent a biopsy?

Ron Hubbard: Yes.

Questioner: Concretely, what she saw was not Area 51?

Ron Hubbard: No, I was in space, in a mother ship.

Interlocutor: Christa Tilton says he saw Gray “and without soul.”

Ron Hubbard: It was confused because one of the races is much more gray than the rest blank.

Interlocutor: Now I understand. She did not know that they were different races and when comparing expressionless thought those things could be some kind of humanoid robots.

Ron Hubbard: Right.

Interlocutor: Nothing to do with robots then ..

Ron Hubbard: No, not really. It would be pointless to build humanoid robots. Something like that is itself nothing more than science fiction. Robots are machines are directly shaped machines with wheels and all those things about the machines.

Questioner: I would now like to ask. How is George to follow?

Ron Hubbard: It’s really very tired in the amount of information that had to be filtered. Note that I had to use four different sources for everything I’ve passed.

Questioner: I understand.

Ron Hubbard: Before you do want to clarify questions that the borders of Area 51 was begun to build in 1954, but only in 1958 was when he was given the biggest boost. From then until 1968 almost did not grow, as it spent more to experiment with antigravity aircraft. But from 1968 to 1998 has grown fivefold. They have even changed the banks of the river to build.

Questioner: Are you referring to the river?

Ron Hubbard: Yes. In 1968 there were three underground levels, there were seven in 1988 and since 1998, fourteen.

Questioner: Fourteen underground levels? It’s amazing! Are almost 100 meters down, calculating five meters per level.

Ron Hubbard: Right.

Questioner: In a report I read that there were places where the depth of the buildings came to more than two thousand meters. Is it a bug?

Ron Hubbard: No, it’s real, but it is huge hangars where the mother ships hide. There are even buildings under a lake. But do not confuse this type of construction with which they serve as offices, laboratories, etc.

Questioner: It is really amazing. And where do you enter these hangars?

Ron Hubbard: It enters a cave hidden and guarded by heavily armed soldiers. To access the interior elevators must use shielded titanium walls, ranging kilometers down.

Questioner: Is it true that no transport in those places that are at a speed of Mach 2?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, perfectly. Technology is used only in Area 51. Out of that does not know even the U.S. president.

Interlocutor: It is very difficult for me to understand why something as monstrous as Area 51 has not fully come to light. I say this because the reports that are around there, either through books or online, are due more to speculation than actual evidence. Researchers are handled only by conjecture, a data collecting data here and there.

Ron Hubbard: The answer is that they have a front mounted perfectly, they do appear as a testing ground for new aircraft. There, in effect, were tested Delta Wing Black, X-15 supersonic aircraft, as well as the X-16, the X-17, also armored tanks, missile, etc.

Questioner: Well, we must recognize that the front is perfect, because that excuse justifying the removal by the armed forces of the curious.

Ron Hubbard: Yes.

Questioner: Was there a battle between terrestrial and extraterrestrial Dulce?

Ron Hubbard: There was a small skirmish, no battle between the races of the Black and Grey breeds. It was to land.

Questioner: And from the same land?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, there were fights between FBI officials wanted to investigate and Men in Black, with several killed by both sides.

Questioner: One that has been reported to Area 51 is Paul Bennewitz. Well, William More worked with Berlitz in his book The Philadelphia Experiment and was allegedly recruited by officers from Area 51 to discredit him and drive him crazy.

Ron Hubbard: What you say is real, and it is also true that they have become a paranoid person. One more question because the receptacle is very unsettled.

Questioner: Thomas C. High security stole papers to report what was happening at Area 51?

Ron Hubbard: Yes, this is also true. He was disgusted by the experiments that were in place with animals and especially humans.

Questioner: This person says he saw reptilian aliens.

Ron Hubbard: Yes, but we must clarify that what he saw were not reptilian aliens working at Area 51, but aliens captive for experiments.

Questioner: I understand. What happened to Thomas? I ask because it seems that Men in Black I went to find his house and took him and his family.

Ron Hubbard: Twice portrayed him as dead but still alive and a prisoner in one of the dependence of Area 51.

Questioner: Do your relatives are dead?

Ron Hubbard: In the case of five scientists, including the person you mention, their families are held hostage at Area 51 and I have been very similar surface doubles as a substitute for posing as relatives and no one suspected.

Questioner: I assume that is a form of pressure for scientists to work “voluntarily” and not escape.

Ron Hubbard: Right.

Questioner: But are not enough implants?

Ron Hubbard: A psychological and emotional issue. I, if I’m working at Area 51 and I know my family is well and happy on the surface, even if I have chips to be more serene and high esteem and then not be so submissive to certain facts, let’s call against humanity, and I will want to report it. But if I know my family is held hostage, my self-esteem is low and therefore fully obey the orders easier to give me and accept any evidence that would hurt my morale.

Questioner: The explanations are perfectly clear. To go ending the session I want to get off some curiosities: All the Greys from the same planet?

Ron Hubbard: No, all from different planets. Neither Blacks from the same planet, since they are two completely different races.

Questioner: What about the altitude?

Ron Hubbard: The antheanos, which included between the Greys, are between 1.40 and 1.60 m. There are other breeds that come to Grey 1.75 m.

Questioner: Well, are about my height.

Ron Hubbard: Yes. There are breeds of Grey measuring about 1.20 m. nothing more. The Predators, who are also Grey, measured between 1.10 and 1.20 m. Blacks are also different. One of the races, those that made the formula of antimatter, are high, it can measure up to 1.80 m.

I’ll leave, because the receptacle is completely destabilized. All my light for you.

Questioner: So long, Master, and thank you.

One of the men who worked in Area 51 is Bob Lazar and here is his interview (full documentary):

Here is an update to Lazar story:

There is tons of information about Area 51, but here former governor Jesse Ventura tries to investigate the area:

Here is a very detailed pictures of S4 facility of Area 51:

So there is a lots of information, which you can dig into, but what is the Truth? That you must find in your heart. I think that at the end of the day you know deep in your heart, that what is true and what is false. Here are just couple of things where you can start. This was the end of mini series called “SECRET SITES” and I will be back on the subject, but now it’s time to move on other topics.

Secret Sites part IV, Secrets Of Giza Plateau

Egypt has always been in my mind since I was a little boy. I have known that something very important is hidden in that area. Why Egypt’s officials don’t tell everything and all the fights between French and Britain of the artifacts, I know there’s something very important and it belongs to whole mankind. I wont tell the history about Giza Plateau but some facts first:

When Khufu, perhaps better known by his Greek name, Cheops, became king of Egypt after the death of Sneferu, there was no convenient space remaining at Dahshur, where Sneferu was buried, for Khufu’s own pyramid complex. Hence, he moved his court and residence farther north, where his prospectors had located a commanding rock cliff, overlooking present day Giza, appropriate for a towering pyramid. This rock cliff was in the northernmost part of the first Lower Egyptian nome, Ineb-hedj (“the white fortress”).

Giza is located only a few kilometers south of Cairo, several hundred meters from the last houses in the southernmost part of the city proper, where a limestone cliff rises abruptly from the other side of a sandy desert plateau. The ancient Egyptians called this place imentet, “The West” or kher neter, “the necropolis”.

Clickable Image Map of Giza

Clickable Image Map

of Giza According to a treatise on the geology of the pyramid plateau by Thomas Aigner, it is part of the Middle Eocene Mokattam Formation, which dips slightly southeast, comprising limestone and dolomites. To the south, the Mokattam and dolomitic limestones are overlain by the marly limestone and sandy marls of the Upper Eocene Maadi Formation. To the north and east, the Mokattam Formation is characterized by two steep escarpments about 30 meters (92 feet) high. It continues to the Great Sphinx ditch, which must at one time have formed a high peak. From there, the stonemasons cut the core blocks for the Great Pyramid.

The older pyramids of the third and early fourth dynasty were built on thick layers of marl and slate. These marl layers were easier to dig than limestone, so excavation of the large shafts that extended as much as 30 meters beneath the step pyramids was accomplished in a reasonable time. However, there was also a serious disadvantage, because the marl layers could not support their weight. The underlayer gave way, and the construction became unstable. This in fact happened with the South Pyramid at Dahshur, where cracks and serious damage appeared in the corridor system and in the chambers so that the pyramid had to be abandoned.

Another view of Giza

Another view of Giza

Hence, when Khufu planned his own ambitious pyramid, he was looking for a solid rock base, nearby quarries and a dominating position overlooking the Nile Valley, which he of course found at Giza.

Giza can be subdivided into two groupings of monuments, clearly defined and separated by a wadi. The larger grouping consists of the three “Great” pyramids of Khufu, Khephren (Khafre), and Menkaure, the Sphinx, attendant temples and outbuildings, and the private mastabas of the nobility.

The second grouping, located on the ridge to the southeast, contains a number of private tombs of citizens of various classes. While the majority of the monuments of the larger grouping are made from limestone that was quarried and transported to the site, the tombs of the smaller grouping are simply carved out of the native living rock.

Though the three Great Pyramids are the most famous and prominent monuments at Giza, the site has actually been a Necropolis almost since the beginning of Pharaonic Egypt. A tomb just on the outskirts of the Giza site dates from the reign of the First Dynasty Pharaoh Wadj (Djet), and jar sealings discovered in a tomb in the southern part of Giza mention the Second Dynasty Pharaoh Ninetjer. But it was the Fourth Dynasty Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops) who placed Giza forever at the heart of funerary devotion, a city of the dead that dwarfed the cities of the living nearby. In order to build his complex, he had to clear away many of the old tombs, filling in their shafts or even totally destroying them. His pyramid, the largest of all the pyramids in Egypt (though it should be noted that it surpasses the Red Pyramid at Dahshur built by his father Snefru by only ten meters), dominates the sandy plain.

On its southwest diagonal is the pyramid of his son, Khephren (Chephren, Khafre). Although it is smaller, a steeper angle results in the illusion that they are the same size. In fact, Kephren’s pyramid appears taller since it is on higher ground. The notion that this was done on purpose to out-do his father is without question. As it occupies the central point, has the illusion of greater size, and still has some of its casing stones intact, it is frequently mistaken to as the Great Pyramid, something that would no doubt please Khephren were he alive today.

Further along the southwest diagonal is the smallest of the three great pyramids, that ofKhephren‘s son, Menkaure. It is also the most unusual. First of all, it is not entirely limestone. The uppermost portions are brick, much like the several Pyramids at Dahshur, though separated from them by several centuries. One theory is that Menkaure died before his pyramid could be completed, and the remaining construction was hastily done to finish it in time for the burial. It is also not along the diagonal line that runs through the Great Pyramid and the Second Pyramid, but instead is nearly a hundred meters to the southeast. This error, if error it is, is of a magnitude not in keeping with the mathematical skill known to have been possessed by the ancient Egyptians. However, an idea has emerged in the last few years that the three large pyramids of Giza are actually meant to be in an alignment resembling that of the three “belt” stars in the constellation Orion: Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka. This theory is largely discounted by the majority of Egyptologists, but some do believe it is a point to ponder. Actually, it should also be noted that, while the center of the pyramid does not line up with its larger counterparts, the southeast sides of all three pyramids are in alignment.

All three pyramids stand empty, probably plundered during the political unrest that ended the Old Kingdom when the monarchy collapsed. Yet there are the occasional surprises. Airtight pits along the southern and eastern walls of Khufu‘s pyramid contain boats (not small ritual boats, but fully-functional funerary barges with 40-ton displacements. One was excavated in 1954).

Exactly how big Giza is may never be known. Excavations have continued to find new tombs and artifacts since Bezoni, Caviglia, Perring, and Vyse began the first systematic study of Giza in the early 1800s. It has been explored and excavated more thoroughly than any other site in Egypt, possibly more than any other site in the world, yet no one believes the research is anywhere near complete today.

Throughout the Old Kingdom, the cemetery of Giza remained the most prominent, even when the kings moved again to Southern Saqqara. For example, important officials such as the architects of the ‘inti family, who constructed the pyramids of the 5th and 6th Dynasties, continued to live in the pyramid town of Khufu and had their family tombs at Giza.

During the First Intermediate Period, the pyramid town of Khufu and the cemetery of Giza were both abandoned, and they remained so during the Middle Kingdom. In fact, the pyramids were forcefully opened and plundered, and the private tombs were not ignored by thieves either. The causeways and temples were in fact even used as quarries by the architects of the kings of the 12th Dynasty.

The Great Sphinx at Giza

This all changed completely during the New Kingdom. The kings of the 18th Dynasty showed deep respect for the pyramids as monuments of their ancestors at Giza, and the area gained considerable religious significance as the center of royal worship to the Great Sphinx, “Lord of Setpet, the Chosen Place.” Princes and kings of the 18th and 19th Dynasties erected stelae between the paws of the Sphinx, which was no longer seen as a royal statue but rather as an image of the sun god Harmachis, “Horus in his Western Horizon”, which was actually a reference to the “Horizon of Khufu”. Amenhotep II dedicated a small temple to Harcachis to the northeast of the Sphinx. On foundation tables of that temple, the Sphinx is also named Harmachis-Hauron. Hauron was the name of a Syrian-Palestinian god of the netherworld that a community of Syrian-Palestinians living near the Great Sphinx identified with his image. Ramesses II installed a sanctuary within the forepaws of the Sphinx.

In the Late period, Osiris became the dominant god of the area, taking over the cult locations of Rostau from Sokar and installing his cult in the Sphinx. High, massive pedestals were actually added to the body of the Sphinx, on which chapels of Osiris and probably Isis stood. Isis became known as the “Lady of the Pyramids.”

Another View of the Great Sphinx at Giza

During the Sixth Century BC onward, Greek travelers admired the pyramids at Giza, and it was they who eventually placed the monuments in the list of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

After the Pharonic Period, and up until recently, stone from the monuments were taken and used to build buildings in nearby Cairo. First the polished white limestone “casing” was taken, then the softer core stones. Many of Cairo’s oldest buildings are built partly from stones from the pyramids. This destruction continued well into the Nineteenth Century until preservation efforts and a resurgence of national pride put a stop to it. It is believed that had the pyramids not been vandalized, they would still remain to this day much as they were when they were built. As the saying goes, “Man fears Time, but Time fears the Pyramids.”

In March 1993, a small “door” made of marble or limestone with two copper handles fixed on it was discovered by a mechanized robot (Upuaut II, “Me opener of the way” in ancient Egyptian) at the end of a long narrow shaft (8 x 8 inches and 200 feet long). Since then the discoverer, robotics engineer Rudolf Gantenbrink from Munich, has been banned from resuming the exploration and opening the door. The official reason given by the Egyptian Antiquities Authorities (known as the Supreme Council of Antiquities – SCA) was that Gantenbrink leaked the news of the discovery to the British Press in April 1993 and thus, apparently, broke a “rule” of archeology. The Director of the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo, Dr. Rainer Stadelmann, sided with the Egyptians and condemned Gantenbrink for his press action. Dr. Stadelmann was adamant about the non-importance of the find. “This is not a door; there is nothing behind it.” The President of the Supreme Council for Antiquities, Dr. Muhamad Bakr, went as far as claiming a “hoax.” “The orifice of the shaft is too small for the robot to go through” and accused the “German scientist” of not having the correct “approvals” from the SCA to carry out the exploration. Dr. Bakr fired the Chief Inspector of the Giza Pyramid Plateau, Dr. Zahi Hawass, although the official reason given was that a valuable ancient “statue” under the custody of Hawass was stolen from Giza. Three months later, in June 1993, Dr. Bakr himself was fired and replaced by Dr. Nur El Din. Amid accusations of malpractice and fraud, Dr. Bakr spoke of a “mafia” which had been involved with the Pyramids for “the last twenty years”. Refusing to give names, Dr. Bakr said, “I wanted the whole matter investigated by the prosecution authorities, but my request was refused.” Meanwhile, Dr. Hawass, who went to the USA, claimed that the discovery of the “door” was “THE discovery in Egypt,” and speculated on important artifacts behind it. In early 1994, Dr. Hawass was reinstalled at his post at the Giza Pyramids. Meanwhile, Gantenbrink offered his robot to the Egyptians and also offered to train an Egyptian technician to man the equipment and open the door. The Egyptians rejected the offer; “We are very busy at the moment,” replied Dr. Nur El Din. About the same time, Dr. Hawass was to declare that “I do not think this is a “door” and there is nothing behind it.” In March 1996 however, Dr. Hawass changed his mind once again and declared Gantenbrink’s find as being one of huge interest and that the “door” would be opened in September 1996 by a Canadian “mission”, but not including Rudolf Gantenbrink or his robot. The Canadian “mission” is owned by Amtex Corporation of Canada, a mulit-media CD-ROM company, who are reported to be raising the huge sum of $10 million to promote a staged a “live opening” of the door on television networks. “I’m working with a private guy who is a personal friend of Hawass and we are absolutely going to drum this thing to death. Whatever the event we are going to stage, it will be televised live,” reported Amtex Corporation’s president, Mr Peter Zuuring.

TUNNELS & CHAMBERS UNDER THE GREAT SPHINX

I. In a series of expeditions between 1991 and 1993 led by John Anthony West, an independent Egyptologist, scientific investigators conducted geological and seismic surveys around the Great Sphinx of Egypt. The chief geologist was Dr. Robert Schoch, Professor of Geology at Boston University, and the chief seismologist was Thomas Dobecki, from the highly-respected Houston consulting firm, McBride-Ratclif & Associates.

II.The team’s conclusions were as follows: A. Geology, The pattern of erosion on the Sphinx indicates that it was carved at the end of the last Ice Age, when heavy rains fell on the eastern Sahara – perhaps more than 12, 000 years ago. This contrasts starkly with the “orthodox” Egyptological dating for the Sphinx of around 4,500 years ago. B. Seismography. The seismic survey indicated the existence of several unexplored tunnels and cavities in the bedrock beneath the Sphinx, including a large rectangular chamber at a depth of some 25 feet beneath the monuments front paws.

III., In 1993, John West and his team were physically expelled from the site by Dr. Zawi Hawass then (and now) the Egyptian government’s Chief Inspector of Antiquities for the Pyramids and Sphinx. He appeared to be angered by the suggestion that the Sphinx might be far older than the civilization of Egypt itself – and thus the work of a lost civilization – and was particularly incensed by an NBC television film that was made about the team’s work This film linked the Sphinx to Atlantis and suggested that the chamber beneath the paws might contain the legendary “Hall of Records” of Atlantis. Hawass called these claims, “American hallucinations .. There is no scientific base for any of this. We have older monuments in the same area. They definitely weren’t built by men from Atlantis. It’s nonsense and we won’t allow our monuments to be exploited for personal enrichment. The Sphinx is the soul of Egypt.”

IV. An article in the Egyptian press responding to the NBC film quoted Dr. Hawass on his further reasons for expelling John West and his team from the Sphinx enclosure: “I have found that their work is carried out by installing endoscopes in the Sphinx body and shooting film for all phases of the work in a propagandistic but not scientific manner. I therefore suspended the work of this unscientific mission and made a report which was presented to the permanent commission who rejected the mission’s work in the future.”

V. The NBC film was produced by a certain Boris Said and partially financed by investments from the members of the Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE). The ARE, headquartered in Virginia Beach in the US, is a multimillion dollar organization that exists to promulgate the teachings and prophecies of an American psychic, Edgar Cayce, who died in 1947. Prominent amongst Cayce’s pronouncements were many statements to the effect that the Sphinx had been built in 10,500 BC by the survivors of the lost civiliaztion of Atlantis and that the survivors had concealed beneath it a “Hall of Records” containing all the wisdom of their lost civilization and the true history of the human race. Cayce prophesied that this Hall of Records would be rediscovered and opened between 1996 and 1998. He connected the opening to second coming of Christ.

VI. In 1995, John West and Professor Robert Schoch of Boston University put in an application to the Egyptian authorities to resume their research. their application was ignored.

VII At the beginning of April 1996, the Egyptian authorities granted a one-year license to a new team to conduct surveys around the Sphinx and the Giza necropolis using seismic equipment and ground-penetrating radar. This team, which claims academic sponsorship from Florida State University , is largely financed through the Schor Foundation of New York – by Dr. Joseph Schor, an American multimillionaire. Dr. Schor is a life member of the ARE and wrote on 24th May 1994 of his great personal interest in corroborating “the Cayce records which indicated that the culture which led to the building of the Pyramids dates to 10,400 BC.’: He also staated his wish “to further delineate that civilization.”

VIII On April 11th 1996 Dr. Schor stated of his current project at the Sphinx: “We do not work for the Edgar Cayce Group. The major purpose of the Schor Foundation and the Florida State University is to aid in the preservation and restoration of the Pyramids and Sphinx. In addition, we are surveying the underground of the Giza Plateau to find faults and chasms that might collapse. This will increase the safety of the plateau.”

IX Also financed by Dr. Schor is a short video film shot at the end of 1995 by Boris Said and produced in early 1996. The film opens with Dr. Zawi Hawass scrambling into a tunnel leading under the Sphinx. When he reaches the bottom he turns to face the camera and whispers to the viewer, “Even Indiana Jones woull never dream to be here. Can you believe it? We are now inside the Sphinx in this tunnel. This tunnel has never been opened before. No one really knows what’s inside this tunnel. But we are going to open it for the first time.” In commentary the film’s narrator goes on to state, “Edgar Cayce, America’s famous ‘Sleeping Prophet’, predicted that a chamber would be discovered beneath the Sphinx – a chamber containing the recorded history of human civilization. For the first time we’ll show you what lies beneath this great statue…a chamber which will be opened tonight, live, for our television cameras.”

X . Dr. Schor has stated (on 11th April 1996) that this video is not a promotional venture aimed at hooking a major US network to televise a live opening of a chamber under the Sphinx. On the contrary, he insists, ‘It was made to test script and equipment and was made in November 1995 which was many months before we received approval for our expedition. We have abandoned its use..”

XI. On 14th April 1996, Dr. Zawi Hawass announced in the Egyptian press that there were secret tunnels under the Sphinx and around the Pyramids and stated his belief that these tunnels would prove to “carry many secrets of the building of the Pyramids.”

Here Graham Hancock talks about the Great Pyramids, that they are not just ancient tombs:

And here is a Chris Dunn’s beautiful theory, that Pyramids could have been ancient power plants (4 parts):

I think that the “official” story about Great Pyramids and Giza Plateau stinks and it stinks very bad. We don’t know anything about the ancient technology, because of some little group of scholars who has decided that this is the “official” theory and there’s no more about it. I think that it’s foolish to built these kind of monuments just tombs, it’s just too stupid. Ancient had maybe anti-gravity technology and this knowledge belongs to mankind. We need to know the Truth about Giza Plateau and it can be found if you search deep enough. Let’s find the Truth and stay tuned for more SECRET SITES!!!

Secret Sites part III, Pumapunku – Ancient technology or alien playground?

This complex monument group has fascinated me for years. Who the hell on Earth could do these kind of stone monuments at least 14,000 years ago? Those stones are so precisely cut, that it looks almost impossible to make them with ancient hand tools. If you ask me I would say that something similar modern day water cutting power tools was used. Another thing is the engineering work that has been used on that site. Those massive blocks of stone fits together and they have very sophisticated building method almost like nowadays buildings. So here is first the 12 facts about Puma Punku:

12 Facts about Puma Punku

  1. Puma Punku is so unique in the way that it was constructed and shaped and positioned, that it is the most intriguing ancient site on the planet.
  2. If you look at the stones carefully, you can see some intricate stonework, as though they used machine tools or even lasers. Evidence of ancient civilizations using modern technology? Sure.
  3. At Puma Punku you will find incredible stones with these perfect right angles, smooth as glass, this makes Puma Punku unique and over of the few places on earth to find this type of stone work.
  4. The massive stones were hewn at quarries over 60 miles away.
  5. Puma Punku is located  at an altitude of 12,800 feet, which means it is located above the natural tree line, this means that NO trees grew in that area which means that no trees were cut down in order to use wooden rollers, the question is how did they transport the stones?
  6. Tiahuanaco is located near Puma Punku, less than a quarter mile northeast of Puma Punku. Scientists believe Tiahuanaco was once the center of a civilization with more than 40,000 inhabitants.
  7. Tiahuanaco is probably the greatest Native American civilization that many people haven’t heard of.
  8. It’s said that in Tiahuanaco are all the races of mankind represented, even elongated skulls, people wearing turbans, people with broad noses, people with thin noses, people with thick lips, people with thin lips, and some of the statues are particularly unusual and are unlike the ones found in the nearby area.
  9. One of the most important archaeological artifacts ever discovered in Tiahuanaco or Puma Punku is the famous Fuente Magna Bowl discovered near Tiahuanaco.
  10. The Ceramic bowl, has  Sumerian cuneiform and Proto-Sumerian hieroglyphic written on it.
  11. The megalithic stones found at Puma Punku are among the largest on the planet.
  12. There are stones at Puma Punku that weigh over 100 tons.

Then we have some more information about the site:

Pumapunku also called “Puma Pumku” or “Puma Puncu”, is part of a large temple complex or monument group that is part of the Tiwanaku Site near Tiwanaku, Bolivia. Tiwanaku is significant in Incan traditions because it is believed to be the site where the world was created.[1] In Aymara, Puma Punku’s name means “The Door of the Puma”. The Pumapunku complex consists of an unwalled western court, a central unwalled esplanade, a terraced platform mound that is faced with megalithic stone, and a walled eastern court.[2][3][4] The Pumapunku is a terraced earthen mound that is faced with megalithic blocks. It is 167.36 meters wide along its north-south axis and 116.7 meters long along its east-west axis. On the northeast and southeast corners of the Pumapunku it has 20-meter wide projections that extend 27.6 meters north and south from the rectangular mound. The eastern edge of the Pumapunku is occupied by what is called the “Plataforma Lítica.” The Plataforma Lítica consists of a stone terrace that is 6.75 by 38.72 meters in dimension. This terrace is paved with multiple enormous stone blocks. The Plataforma Lítica contains the largest stone slab found in both the Pumapunku and Tiwanaku Site. This stone slab is 7.81 meters long, 5.17 meters wide and averages 1.07 meters thick. Based upon the specific gravity of the red sandstone from which it was carved, this stone slab has been estimated to weigh 131 metric tons.[5] The other stonework and facing of the Pumapunku consists of a mixture of andesite and red sandstone. The core of the Pumapunku consists of clay. The fill underlying selected parts of the edge of the Pumapunku consists of river sand and cobbles instead of clay. Excavations at the Pumapunku have documented “three major building epochs, in addition to small repairs and remodeling.”[2][3][4][5][6]

At its peak, Pumapunku is thought to have been “unimaginably wondrous”,[3] adorned with polished metal plaques, brightly colored ceramic and fabric ornamentation, trafficked by costumed citizens, elaborately dressed priests and elites decked in exotic jewelry. Current understanding of this complex is limited due to its age, the lack of a written record, the current deteriorated state of the structures due to treasure hunting, looting, stone mining for building stone and railroad ballast, and natural weathering.[2][3][5]

The area within the kilometer separating the Pumapunku and Kalasasaya complexes has been surveyed using ground-penetrating radar, magnetometry, induced electrical conductivity, and magnetic susceptibility. The geophysical data collected from these surveys and excavations have revealed in the area between the Pumapunku and Kalasasaya complexes the presence of numerous man-made structures. These structures include the wall foundations of buildings and compounds, water conduits, pool-like features, revetments, terraces, residential compounds, and widespread gravel pavements all of which now lie buried and hidden beneath the modern ground’s surface.[7][8]

Age

Determining the age of the Pumapunku complex has been a focus of researchers since the discovery of the Tiwanaku site. As noted by Andean specialist, Binghamton University Anthropology professor W. H. Isbell,[2] a radiocarbon date was obtained by Vranich[3] from organic material from lowermost and oldest layer of mound-fill forming the Pumapunku. This layer was deposited during the first of three construction epochs and dates the initial construction of the Pumapunku to AD 536–600 (1510 ±25 B.P. C14, calibrated date). Since the radiocarbon date came from the lowermost and oldest layer of mound-fill underlying the andesite and sandstone stonework, the stonework must have been constructed sometime after AD 536–600. The excavation trenches of Vranich show that the clay, sand, and gravel fill of the Pumapunku complex lie directly on the sterile middle Pleistocene sediments. These excavation trenches also demonstrated the lack of any pre-Andean Middle Horizon cultural deposits within the area of the Tiwanaku Site adjacent to the Pumapunku complex.[3]

Engineering

Demonstration of the building block technique

The largest of these stone blocks is 7.81 meters long, 5.17 meters wide, averages 1.07 meters thick, and is estimated to weigh about 131 metric tons (288,805lb). The second largest stone block found within the Pumapunka is 7.90 meters long, 2.50 meters wide, and averages 1.86 meters thick. Its weight has been estimated to be 85.21 metric tons. Both of these stone blocks are part of the Plataforma Lítica and composed of red sandstone.[5] Based upon detailed petrographic and chemical analyses of samples from both individual stones and known quarry sites, archaeologists concluded that these and other red sandstone blocks were transported up a steep incline from a quarry near Lake Titicaca roughly 10 km away. Smaller andesite blocks that were used for stone facing and carvings came from quarries within the Copacabana Peninsula about 90 km away from and across Lake Titicaca from the Pumapunka and the rest of the Tiwanaku Site.[3][5]

Archaeologists argue that the transport of these stones was accomplished by the large labor force of ancient Tiwanaku. Several theories have been proposed as to how this labor force transported the stones although these theories remain speculative. Two of the more common proposals involve the use of llama skin ropes and the use of ramps and inclined planes.[9]

In assembling the walls of Pumapunku, each stone was finely cut to interlock with the surrounding stones and the blocks fit together like a puzzle, forming load-bearing joints without the use of mortar. One common engineering technique involves cutting the top of the lower stone at a certain angle, and placing another stone on top of it which was cut at the same angle.[4] The precision with which these angles have been utilized to create flush joints is indicative of a highly sophisticated knowledge of stone-cutting and a thorough understanding of descriptive geometry.[6] Many of the joints are so precise that not even a razor blade will fit between the stones.[10] Much of the masonry is characterized by accurately cut rectilinear blocks of such uniformity that they could be interchanged for one another while maintaining a level surface and even joints. The blocks were so precisely cut as to suggest the possibility of prefabrication and mass production, technologies far in advance of the Tiwanaku’s Incan successors hundreds of years later.[9] Tiwanaku engineers were also adept at developing a civic infrastructure at this complex, constructing functional irrigation systems, hydraulic mechanisms, and waterproof sewage lines.

Architecture

Demonstration of the building block technique

Puma Punku was a large earthen platform mound with three levels of stone retaining walls.[11] Its layout is thought to have resembled a square.[11] To sustain the weight of these massive structures, Tiwanaku architects were meticulous in creating foundations, often fitting stones directly to bedrock or digging precise trenches and carefully filling them with layered sedimentary stones to support large stone blocks.[9] Modern day engineers argue that the base of the Pumapunku temple was constructed using a technique called layering and depositing. By alternating layers of sand from the interior and layers of composite from the exterior, the fills would overlap each other at the joints, essentially grading the contact points to create a sturdy base.[4][9]

Notable features at Pumapunku are I-shaped architectural cramps, which are composed of a unique copper-arsenic-nickel bronze alloy. These I-shaped cramps were also used on a section of canal found at the base of the Akapana pyramid at Tiwanaku. These cramps were used to hold the blocks comprising the walls and bottom of stone-lined canals that drain sunken courts. I-cramps of unknown composition were used to hold together the massive slabs that formed Pumapunku’s four large platforms. In the south canal of the Pumapunku, the I-shaped cramps were cast in place. In sharp contrast, the cramps used at the Akapana canal were fashioned by the cold hammering of copper-arsenic-nickel bronze ingots.[9][12] The unique copper-arsenic-nickel bronze alloy is also found in metal artifacts within the region between Tiwanaku and San Pedro de Atacama during the late Middle Horizon around 600–900.[13]

Cultural and spiritual significance

It is theorized the Pumapunku complex as well as its surrounding temples, the Akapana pyramid, Kalasasaya, Putuni and Kerikala functioned as spiritual and ritual centers for the Tiwanaku. This area might have been viewed as the center of the Andean world, attracting pilgrims from far away to marvel in its beauty. These structures transformed the local landscape; Pumapunku was purposely integrated with Illimani mountain, a sacred peak that the Tiwanaku possibly believed to be home to the spirits of their dead. This area was believed to have existed between heaven and Earth. The spiritual significance and the sense of wonder would have been amplified into a “mind-altering and life-changing experience”[14] through the use of hallucinogenic plants. Examinations of hair samples exhibit remnants of psychoactive substances in many mummies found in Tiwanaku culture mummies from Northern Chile, even those of babies as young as 1 year of age, demonstrating the importance of these substances to the Tiwanaku.[15]

As was characteristic of civilizations around this time, the Tiwanaku actively incorporated human sacrifice into their culture. The remains of dismembered bodies have been found throughout the area. Ceramic artifacts depict imagery of warriors, masked with puma skulls, decapitating their enemies and holding trophy skulls, adorned with belts of human heads with their tongues torn out.[14] It is believed that, because of certain markings on stones found at Puma Punku, the Gateway of the sun was originally part of Puma Punku.[16]

Peak and decline

The Tiwanaku civilization and the use of these temples appears to some to have peaked from 700 to 1000 AD. by which point the temples and surrounding area may have been home to some 400,000 people. By this point, an extensive infrastructure had been developed with a complex irrigation system running over 30 square miles (80 km2) to support potatoes, quinoa, corn and other various crops. At its peak the Tiwanaku culture dominated the entire Lake Titicaca basin as well as portions of Bolivia and Chile.[17][18]

The culture in question seems to have dissolved rather abruptly some time around 1000 AD and researchers are still seeking answers as to why. A likely scenario involves rapid environmental change, possibly involving an extended drought. Unable to support the massive crop yields necessary for their large population, the Tiwanaku are argued to have scattered into the local mountain ranges only to disappear shortly thereafter.[17][18] Puma Punku is thought to have been abandoned before it was finished.[19]
