Next creature in the series could be called real-life Batman, because it’s shape and size. This messenger of disasters is called the Mothman:
Mothman is a legendary creature first reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area of West Virginia from 15 November 1966 to 15 December 1967. The first newspaper report was published in the Point Pleasant Register dated 16 November 1966, entitled “Couples See Man-Sized Bird…Creature…Something”.
On Nov. 12, 1966, five men who were digging a grave at a cemetery near Clendenin, WV claimed to see a man-like figure fly low from the trees over their heads. This is often attributed as the first known sighting of what would become known as the Mothman.
Shortly thereafter, on Nov. 15, 1966, two young couples from Point Pleasant, Roger and Linda Scarberry, and Steve and Mary Mallette told police they saw a large white creature whose eyes “glowed red” when the car headlights picked it up. They described it as a “flying man with ten foot wings’ following their car while they were driving in an area of town known as ‘the TNT area‘, the site of a former World War II munitions plant.
During the next few days, other people reported similar sightings. Two volunteer firemen who sighted it said it was a “large bird with red eyes”. Mason County Sheriff George Johnson commented that he believed the sightings were due to an unusually large heron he termed a “shitepoke”. Contractor Newell Partridge told Johnson that when he aimed a flashlight at a creature in a nearby field its eyes glowed “like bicycle reflectors”, and blamed buzzing noises from his television set and the disappearance of his German Shepherd dog on the creature.Wildlife biologist Dr. Robert L. Smith at West Virginia University told reporters that descriptions and sightings all fit the Sandhill Crane, a large American crane almost as high as a man with a seven foot wingspan featuring circles of reddish coloring around the eyes, and that the bird may have wandered out of its migration route.
There were no Mothman reports in the immediate aftermath of the December 15, 1967 collapse of the Silver Bridge and the death of 46 people, giving rise to legends that the Mothman sightings and the bridge collapse were connected.
Claims of later sightings
UFOlogist Jerome Clark writes that many years after the initial events, members of the Ohio UFO Investigators League re-interviewed several people who claimed to have seen Mothman, all of whom insisted their stories were accurate. Linda Scarberry claimed that she and her husband had seen Mothman “hundreds of times, ” sometimes at close range, commenting, “It seems like it doesn’t want to hurt you. It just wants to communicate with you. ”
Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman claims that sightings of Mothman continue, and told USA Today he re-interviewed witnesses described in Keel’s book who said Mothman was “a huge creature about 7 feet tall with huge wings and red eyes” and that “they could see the creature flapping right behind them” as they fled from it.
Some UFologists, paranormal authors, and cryptozoologists believe that Mothman was an alien, a supernatural manifestation, or an unknown cryptid. In his 1975 book The Mothman Prophecies, author John Keel claimed that the Point Pleasant residents experienced precognitions including premonitions of the collapse of the Silver Bridge, unidentified flying object sightings, visits from mysterious or threatening men in black, and other bizarre phenomena. However, Keel has been criticized for distorting established data, and for gullibility.
SkepticJoe Nickell says that a number of hoaxes followed the publicity generated by the original reports, such as a group of construction workers who tied red flashlights to helium balloons. Nickell attributes the Mothman reports to pranks, misidentified planes, and sightings of a barred owl, an albino owl, suggesting that the Mothman’s “glowing eyes” were actually red-eye effect caused from the reflection of light from flashlights or other bright light sources. The area lies outside the snowy owl’s usual range and locals, unfamiliar with such a large owl, could have misidentified the bird.
Folklorist Jan Harold Brunvand notes that Mothman has been widely covered in the popular press, some claiming sightings connected with UFOs, and others claiming that a military storage site was Mothman’s “home”. Brunvand notes that recountings of the 1966-67 Mothman reports usually state that at least 100 people saw Mothman with many more “afraid to report their sightings”, but observed that written sources for such stories consisted of children’s books or sensationalized or undocumented accounts that fail to quote identifiable persons. Brunvand found elements in common among many Mothman reports and much older folk tales, suggesting that something real may have triggered the scares and became woven with existing folklore. He also records anecdotal tales of Mothman supposedly attacking the roofs of parked cars inhabited by teenagers.
Festivals and statue
Point Pleasant held its first Annual Mothman Festival in 2002 and a 12-foot-tall metallic statue of the creature, created by artist and sculptor Bob Roach, was unveiled in 2003. The Mothman Museum and Research Center opened in 2005 and is run by Jeff Wamsley. The Festival is a weekend-long event held on the 3rd weekend of every September. There are a variety of events that go on during the festival such as guest speakers, vendor exhibits, and hayride tours focusing on the notable areas of Point Pleasant.
So there is a small info packet about Mothman for you. I think that this Mothman case could be real, because of hundreds of sightings and reports. It could also be a large bird like an eagle or an owl, but it is unlikely. I think that it is cool to think, that there is a real-life Batman somewhere 🙂 Stay tuned for more CREATURES FROM BEYOND!
Next creature from beyond is close to Slender Man and is called the Rake.
There is not so much information related to this “friend” of Slender Man but here is a small description about the Rake:
The Rake is the name of a creature with very little information about it. It is described by original reports as a “naked man, or large hairless dog of some sort,” with a body position that seemed “unnatural, as if it had been hit by a car or something.” The Rake’s only appearance in video is through EverymanHYBRID, where it is captured in full twice, and is heard at least once.
In relation to Slenderman The Rake is speculated by some to be a Proxy that has, through mutation (perhaps from prolonged exposure to Sigma Radiation), the strange powers Slenderman seems able to give (e.g. The Collective) or perhaps by self mutilation somehow changed overtime into a creature bearing little resemblance to a human being, this would explain why it is able to interact physically with it’s surroundings/victims without (unlike other Canon beings) needing the aid of a human being. It could also be speculated from this theory that there is not and/or has not always been one Rake as it even today has been known to operate across several countries and has witness encounters from hundreds of years ago.
The Rake is so named due to its hands, which appear to be very large claws. It is capable of inflicting serious damage to a victim in seconds and is extremely violent. Not only is the Rake dangerous, but also very silent, capable of easily slipping into the sleeping room of a victim without ever alerting them that they are present. The Rake appears to prefer killing its victims when they are completely unaware of its presence, typically while sleeping, and its accepted M.O of killing is goring and lacerating its target to death where they either die of blood loss or dismemberment. The Rake’s apparent method of travel is portals, which it can materialize in any unseen location.
Origins and History
The creator of the original account of the Rake is yet unknown. According to this account, the Rake was written of on four continents, and was first described in the 12th century (1101-1200), but provides testimony from 1691 at the earliest.
“A Mariner’s Log: 1691
He came to me in my sleep. From the foot of my bed I felt a sensation. He took everything. We must return to England. We shall not return here again at the request of the Rake.”
The next earliest is an account from the 1800s, where it cites a Spanish journal entry, describing “it” as having hollow eyes. Following that is a 1964 suicide note, where the author claims his/her suicide is due to repeated encounters with the Rake, which apparently stalks him/her. She writes that she fears for “Linnie,” as the Rake spoke his/her name. This may indicate that the creature stalks a victim over long periods of time, or tortures victims.
A witness “in 2006” provides the most complete tale of the Rake, when she and her husband awake to the Rake sitting at the end of their bed. It scurries to the bed side, stares at the witnesses’ husband, and then runs into their children’s’ room, where it attacks their daughter. It flees as the couple approaches, and their daughter’s final words are, “he is the Rake.” Her husband and daughter die when rushing to the hospital, driving into a lake. The witness claims having found many more accounts and contacts who are being or have been stalked by the Rake, and that she has heard it speak to her.
When it first appeared in EMH viewers well-versed in creepypasta lore recognized the Rake due to its distinct appearance: human in form, but with canine movements, fitting the description from the original creepypasta. In EverymanHYBRID, its presence is usually accompanied by heavy breathing, whispering noises, and loud growls. The Rake is exceedingly strong, with sharp claws. Unlike Slenderman, it doesn’t seem to affect electronic equipment. However, footage seems to blur when The Rake is caught on camera, or nearby. It has been concluded in Consensus that this was not The Rake’s presence, but of technical failure. The Rake is implied to be connected to HABIT somehow, as evidenced by its attack on Ryan. It has attacked Alex, Evan, and Vince. It has killed Jessie, and Ryan, possibly others. It has been speculated to have been involved in attacks on Jeff and Alex’s parents, Lexi, Linnie, and Jessie’s grandmother Rose.
The only known associations the Rake has are Slender Man and HABIT, though these relationships are not clear in their intent, meaning, or actual worth. The Rake’s association with Slender Man are assumed only through the two’s mutual stalking of the EMH crew, relationship with HABIT, and abilities to teleport/slenderwalk/make use of portals. The Rake and Slender Man have another thing in common. On whats argued to be a cloth of the Slender Man’s clothing, and on a victim of the rake they found Sigma Radiation.
The Rake’s relationship to HABIT is unknown, other than it may be a form of referee or rules-keeper for the Seven Trials of HABIT.
In the Slender: The Arrival teaser trailer, there is a hoodie-wearing creature that seems to fear light, and physically attacks the player. The creature seems to bear a resemblance to the Rake, but it is unknown what the bizarre creature is as an image that closer resembles the Rake is seen in Prologue cutscenes. Either it’s a proxy or a new creature.
During the summer of 2003, events in the northeastern United States involving a strange, humanlike creature sparked brief local media interest before an apparent blackout was enacted. Little or no information was left intact, as most online and written accounts of the creature were mysteriously destroyed.
Primarily focused in rural New York state and once found in Idaho, self proclaimed witnesses told stories of their encounters with a creature of unknown origin. Emotions ranged from extremely traumatic levels of fright and discomfort, to an almost childlike sense of playfulness and curiosity. While their published versions are no longer on record, the memories remained powerful. Several of the involved parties began looking for answers that year.
In early 2006, the collaboration had accumulated nearly two dozen documents dating between the 12th century and present day, spanning 4 continents. In almost all cases, the stories were identical. I’ve been in contact with a member of this group and was able to get some excerpts from their upcoming book.
A Suicide Note: 1964
“As I prepare to take my life, I feel it necessary to assuage any guilt or pain I have introduced through this act. It is not the fault of anyone other than him. For once I awoke and felt his presence. And once I awoke and saw his form. Once again I awoke and heard his voice, and looked into his eyes. I cannot sleep without fear of what I might next awake to experience. I cannot ever wake. Goodbye.”
Found in the same wooden box were two empty envelopes addressed to William and Rose, and one loose personal letter with no envelope:
I have prayed for you. He spoke your name.”
A Journal Entry (translated from Spanish): 1880
“I have experience the greatest terror. I have experienced the greatest terror. I have experienced the greatest terror. I see his eyes when I close mine. They are hollow. Black. They saw me and pierced me. His wet hand. I will not sleep. His voice (unintelligible text).”
A Mariner’s Log: 1691
“He came to me in my sleep. From the foot of my bed I felt a sensation. He took everything. We must return to England. We shall not return here again at the request of the Rake.”
From a Witness: 2006
“Three years ago, I had just returned from a trip from Niagara Falls with my family for the 4th of July. We were all very exhausted after a long day of driving, so my husband and I put the kids right to bed and called it a night.
At about 4am, I woke up thinking my husband had gotten up to use the restroom. I used the moment to steal back the sheets, only to wake him in the process. I appologized and told him I though he got out of bed. When he turned to face me, he gasped and pulled his feet up from the end of the bed so quickly his knee almost knocked me out of the bed. He then grabbed me and said nothing.
After adjusting to the dark for a half second, I was able to see what caused the strange reaction. At the foot of the bed, sitting and facing away from us, there was what appeared to be a naked man, or a large hairless dog of some sort. Its body position was disturbing and unnatural, as if it had been hit by a car or something. For some reason, I was not instantly frightened by it, but more concerned as to its condition. At this point I was somewhat under the assumption that we were supposed to help him.
My husband was peering over his arm and knee, tucked into the fetal position, occasionally glancing at me before returning to the creature.
In a flurry of motion, the creature scrambled around the side of the bed, and then crawled quickly in a flailing sort of motion right along the bed until it was less than a foot from my husband’s face. The creature was completely silent for about 30 seconds (or probably closer to 5, it just seemed like a while) just looking at my husband. The creature then placed its hand on his knee and ran into the hallway, leading to the kids’ rooms.I screamed and ran for the lightswitch, planning to stop him before he hurt my children. When I got to the hallway, the light from the bedroom was enough to see it crouching and hunched over about 20 feet away. He turned around and looked directly at me, covered in blood. I flipped the switch on the wall and saw my daughter Clara.
The creature ran down the stairs while my husband and I rushed to help our daughter. She was very badly injured and spoke only once more in her short life. She said “he is the Rake”.
My husband drove his car into a lake that night, while rushing our daughter to the hospital. They did not survive.
Being a small town, news got around pretty quickly. The police were helpful at first, and the local newspaper took a lot of interest as well. However, the story was never published and the local television news never followed up either.
For several months, my son Justin and I stayed in a hotel near my parent’s house. After we decided to return home, I began looking for answers myself. I eventually located a man in the next town over who had a similar story. We got in contact and began talking about our experiences. He knew of two other people in New York who had seen the creature we now referred to as the Rake.
It took the four of us about two solid years of hunting on the internet and writing letters to come up with a small collection of what we believe to be accounts of the Rake. None of them gave any details, history or follow up. One journal had an entry involving the creature in its first 3 pages, and never mentioned it again. A ship’s log explained nothing of the encounter, saying only that they were told to leave by the Rake. That was the last entry in the log.
There were, however, many instances where the creature’s visit was one of a series of visits with the same person. Multiple people also mentioned being spoken to, my daughter included. This led us to wonder if the Rake had visited any of us before our last encounter.
I set up a digital recorder near my bed and left it running all night, every night, for two weeks. I would tediously scan through the sounds of me rolling around in my bed each day when I woke up. By the end of the second week, I was quite used to the occasional sound of sleep while blurring through the recording at 8 times the normal speed. (This still took almost an hour every day)
On the first day of the third week, I thought I heard something different. What I found was a shrill voice. It was the Rake. I can’t listen to it long enough to even begin to transcribe it. I haven’t let anyone listen to it yet. All I know is that I’ve heard it before, and I now believe that it spoke when it was sitting in front of my husband. I don’t remember hearing anything at the time, but for some reason, the voice on the recorder immediately brings me back to that moment.
The thoughts that must have gone through my daughter’s head make me very upset.
I have not seen the Rake since he ruined my life, but I know that he has been in my room while I slept. I know and fear that one night I’ll wake up to see him staring at me.”
I’m not so satisfied related to this Rake information, because there is so little of it. So I think that Slender Man has more potential to be “real deal” than Rake, but hey if you have encountered the Rake, you know that it is real.
But I keep searching more information related to the Rake… and stay tuned for more CREATURES FROM BEYOND!
Now is time for series about mythical creatures, beings and beasts. The most fascinating one of them is so called Slender Man or “Der Ritter”. I found this about half years ago and it has been in my mind since then. This case is interesting because there are different kind of tales from the past centuries that describe same kind of creature in different names. Here is one description of Slender:
The Slender Man is an alleged paranormal figure purported to have been in existence for centuries, covering a large geographic area. Believers in the Slender Man tie his appearances in with many other legends around the world, including; Fear Dubh (or, The Dark Man) in Scotland, the Dutch Takkenmann (Branch Man), and the German legend of Der Großmann or Der Grosse Mann (the Tall Man).
Renowned German woodcutter Hans Freckenberg created at least two woodcuts featuring a character.
He described as Der Ritter (The Knight) during the mid-sixteenth century that were discovered in Halstberg Castle in 1883. Whilst Freckenberg was well-known for his realistic depiction of human anatomy – something that was unusual among woodcuts of the time – these pictures featured a skeletal, multi-limbed character. Historians are unsure of the exact symbolic nature of the character, with some claiming that it is a personification of the religious wars that raged in Europe at the time, while others say it represents the mysterious plagues that have been believed to be the reason for the mysterious abandoning of the Hastlberg Castle and the nearby village in 1543.
However, many insist that Freckenberg was attempting to represent “Der Großmann” (the Tall Man). According to lgend, he was a fairy ho lived in the Black Forest. Bad children who crept into the woods at night would be relentlessly chased by Der Großmann, who wouldn’t leave them be until he either caught them or they were forced to tell their parents of their wrongdoing. Even then, there is a chillding account from an old journal, dating from about 1702:
“My child, my Lars… he is gone. Taken, from his bed. The only thing that we found was a scrap of black clothing. It feels like cotton, but it is softer… thicker. Lars came into my bedroom ysterday, screaming at the top of his lungs that “The angel is outside!” I asked him what he was talking about, and he told me some nonsense fairy story about Der Großmann. He said he went into the groves by our village and found one of my cows dead, hanging from a tree. I thought nothing of it at first… but now, he is gone. We must find Lars, and my family must leave before we are killed. I am sorry, my son… I should have listened. May God forgive me.”
Selected 20th Century Appearances
The number of Slender Man sightings has increased dramatically during the Twentieth Century. This is generally attributed to increased media coverage and access to news reports from around the globe.
Henderson Horse Farm Incident 1953
The Henderson Horse Farm, located outside Tryon in Polk County, NC, was situated on land owned by the Henderson family since the mid 1800s. By 1953, the farm was owned and run by Ted Wilcox Henderson (41 years old), Judi Henderson (wife, 36), and Tracy Henderson (daughter, 6). On the morning of June 15th, neighbors called local police complaining of hearing screams and the sounds of gun fire originating from the property.
Sherrif Clint Denterman and two deputies, Dan Parks and Chris Fine, arrived at the farm at 8:34 AM. They found that horses in the barn had been torn apart, “almost as if attacked by wild animals.” Inside the main house, reports stated the presence of fresh blood throughout the living room, kitchen, and hallway.
Ted Wilcox Henderson was found in the bedroom, barricaded behind furniture. Next to him was the body of his wife, killed by a shotgun blast to the chest. Ted still had the weapon in his hands. Dan Parks was quoted as reporting:
“Ted had a freaked out, far off look in his eyes. He seemed to not realize that we were in the room. We asked what happened. Where was his daughter. But he didn’t answer.”
Ted was charged with the murder of his wife. However, due to his catatonic state, he was admitted to Jenkins Mental Hospital in Sandy Plains, Polk County. Ted remained in a catatonic state for over three years. On the third anniversary of the murder, Dr Dauton on June 15th, 1956 refer to a “Skinny fella… suit… looking at me…” who had taken both Judi Henderson and her daughter Tracy. Ted claimed that Judi begged him to shoot her, and felt that he had “saved her” by doing so. However, after lamenting that he had been unable to stop the “skinny man” from absconding with his daughter, Ted commenced to “slam his face repeatedly” into the steel table at which he was seated, having to be restrained and sedated by hospital orderlies. Less than seven hours later, at approximately 3:00 am the 16th of July, Ted was found dead in his room after apparently escaping his restraints and chewing through his own wrist, severing the ulnar artery and bleeding to death. The body of Tracy Henderson was never found, however a photograph taken about a week before the Henderson Farm incident shows what appears to be a suited man standing in front of the stables, which some claim to be the Slender Man.
Stirling City Disappearances 1986 – 87
Stirling City, Butte County, CA has been an apparent hot spot for Slender Man activity during the mid 1980s. Following the 1986 Stirling City Library fire, a small number of photographs were recovered, including one that had been taken only a week earlier on June 1st, 1986. On this date 14 children disappeared, followed less than two weeks later by the disappearance of the photographer, Mary Thomas. Some theorists claim that the figure on the left in the photo is the Slender Man, although officials have stated that the apparent extra appendages on the character can be dismissed as film defects.
Five months later, the body of one of the children, four year old Joseph Pertman, was found in the Great Swamp Nature Preserve in Kingston Falls, NJ. Deputy Sherrif Jim Stolz told reporters from the Associated Press that the body was still in early stages of decay, indicating that he was alive for at least four months after his disappearance. It was also reported that the body was found in a state of “bizarre contortion,” although the cause of death was never officially established.
On April 21st, 1987 the Stirling City Post ran a story regarding a rash of animal mutilations in Stirling City, that the Butte County Animal Control Department were attributing to coyotes. As man as nine dogs and cat had gone missing since January, and had been found in various states of decay. many of the pets had been disemboweled, or otherwise seriously mutilated. Animal Control Officer Joel Driscol was quoted as saying that the wounds were “unusually precise” and that it was “rare that a wild animal would leave so much of the carcass uneaten.” Also quoted inn the story was a local man, David Elkins, who was the owner of the latest victim – a cat that had been disemboweled and mutilated.
On July 12th, 1987, police were called to the Elkins’ residence in Stirling by David Elkins, who had reported that his eight-year-old daughter Katrina had gone missing. The only possible witness to the disappearance was Katrina’s ten-year-old sister Alice, with whom she shared a bedroom. SCPD Sergeant William Hohne reported that the last time Alice saw her sister, she was outside the window “hugging the tall man.” According to further statements by Alice, over the previous weeks a man had been coming to the girls’ bedroom window at night, where he would tap on the glass, “make faces,” and watch the girls. However, police investigators initially dismisses the account as a dream, as the bedroom window was on their house’s second story with no support beneath it.
“[Alice] Elkins reported that, on the night of her sister’s disappearance, they were again awakened by a tapping on the glass,” Sergean Hohne explained, “she heard her sister get out of bed, and have a short conversation. When she didn’t hear her sister get back in bed after several minutes, he go up and went to the window, where she saw her sister in the side yard, “hugging the tall man.” According to the witness, the man looked at her, grinning, and indicated that she was to come down as well with a “snakey arm.” it was at this point that Miss Elkins became extremely frightened, and returned to bed. The tapping continued for several more minutes before it finally ceased.”
Alice Elkins’ body was never found, and no charges were ever brought regarding the case.
Jasper, Alberta Disappearances 2009
On January 10th 2009, three skiers – Amanda Fischer, Douglas Bellanger, and Natasha Pierce – disappeared leaving their cabin in Mica Mountains Resort of Jasper, Alberta. A day earlier, another friend, Thomas Chambers, left the party to return to Calgary, apparently due to health concerns. He was questioned by RCMP following the disappearances and allegedly informed them that he had left due to recurring nightmares featuring a tall man in black peering into the cabin windows at night.
Investigators confirmed they had ruled Chambers out as a possible suspect, but considered him a key witness. A source within RCMP, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed to the Calgary Sun that officers had confiscated a digital camera and a camcorder at the time of the interview, which were never returned. RCMP were, however, unable to question Chambers further, as he vanished on January 21st. His home was found ransacked that morning, he was never found.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Park Officials commenced a month-long search, culminating in the discovery of Amanda Fischer’s remains high in a tree, in a severely contorted condition. The bodies of Bellanger and Pierce have yet to be recovered.
The Suited Demon
Popular guro author Go Waita created almost 230 stories during his 40 year career, most of which featured his most renowned created, the Suited Demon; a tall, slim man in a dark suit who would kidnap, rape, and murder young girls in the woods. During an interview with Hiro Koga in the February 2009 issue Deadly Doom Delights magazine, Waita claimed that he did not create the Suited Demon, and that he was in fact a real creature that he had witnessed murder his seven year old sister as a child. Waita explained to the interviewer that the “real” Suited Demon was not interested in raping his victims, but his editors and publishers insisted on the graphic sex scenes being added.
Waita went on to say that “I tried to draw different things… normal pictures, portraits, even other types of stories… but it always comes comes up… for forty god damn years!” before becoming too agitated to continue and ending the interview. Hiro Koga stated in the printed article that he considered scrapping it completely before receiving a call from Waita insisting that he print the interview in full. Less than a week after publication, Waita burnt his studio to the ground, committing suicide in the process. Because of this, many understandably cast aspersion on the mental sate of Waita during the interview, and therefore dismissed his claims of the origins of the Suited Demon. Some theorists, however, are prepared to accept this as yet another case of a confirmed Slender Man sighting.
There are also claims that the whole Slender Man is a hoax and here is this story:
The Slender Man (also known as Slender Man or Slenderman) is a fictionalcharacter that originated as an Internet meme created by user Victor Surge on the Something Awful forums in 2009. It is depicted as resembling a thin, unnaturally tall man with a blank and featureless face, and wearing a black suit. The Slender Man is commonly said to stalk, abduct, or traumatize people, particularly children.
One of the original photos of the Slender Man, created on the Something Awful forums
The Slender Man was created in a contest launched on the Something Awful forums on June 8, 2009, with the goal of editing photographs to contain supernatural entities. On June 10, a forum poster with the user name “Victor Surge” contributed two black and white images of groups of children, to which he added a tall, thin spectral figure wearing a black suit.Previous entries had consisted solely of photographs; however, Surge supplemented his submission with snatches of text, supposedly from witnesses, describing the abductions of the groups of children, and giving the character the name, “The Slender Man”:
We didn’t want to go, we didn’t want to kill them, but its persistent silence and outstretched arms horrified and comforted us at the same time… 1983, photographer unknown, presumed dead.
One of two recovered photographs from the Stirling City Library blaze. Notable for being taken the day which fourteen children vanished and for what is referred to as “The Slender Man”. Deformities cited as film defects by officials. Fire at library occurred one week later. Actual photograph confiscated as evidence. 1986, photographer: Mary Thomas, missing since June 13th, 1986.
These additions effectively transformed the photographs into a work of fiction. Subsequent posters expanded upon the character, adding their own visual or textual contributions.
The Slender Man soon went viral, spawning numerous works of fanart, cosplay and online fiction known as “creepypasta“; scary stories told in short snatches of easily copyable text that spread from site to site. The first video series involving the Slender Man evolved from a post on the Something Awful thread by user “ce gars”. It tells of a fictional film school friend named Alex Kralie, who had stumbled upon something troubling while shooting his first feature-length project, Marble Hornets. The video series, published in found footage style on YouTube, forms an alternate reality game describing the filmers’ fictional experiences with the Slender Man.Marble Hornets is now one of the most popular Slender Man creations, with over 250,000 followers around the world, and 55 million views. The creator of the sandbox indie game Minecraft, Markus “Notch” Persson, added a new hostile mob to the game in 2011, which was named the “Enderman” when multiple users on Reddit and Google+ commented on the similarity to the Slender Man.In 2012, the Slender Man was adapted into a video game titled Slender: The Eight Pages; as of August, 2012, the game has been downloaded over 2 million times.Several popular variants of the game followed, including Slenderman’s Shadow and Slender Man for iOS, which became the second most-popular app download.Several independent films about the Slender Man have been released or are in development, including Entityand The Slender Man, released free online after a $10,000 Kickstarter campaign. In 2013, it was announced that Marble Hornets would become a theatrical film.
The Slender Man was called “the first great myth of the web” by BBC.The success of the Slender Man legend has been ascribed to the connective nature of the Internet. While nearly everyone involved understands that the Slender Man is not real, the Internet allows others to build on the established tropes, and thus lend an air of authenticity to the character.Victor Surge has commented that many people, despite understanding that the Slender Man was created on the Something Awful forums, still entertain the possibility that it might be real.Professor Tom Peddit of the University of Southern Denmark has described Slender Man as being an exemplar of the modern age’s closing of the “Gutenberg Parenthesis”; the time period from the invention of the printing press to the spread of the web in which stories and information were codified in discrete media, to a return to the older, more primal forms of storytelling, exemplified by oral tradition and campfire tales, in which the same story can be retold, reinterpreted and recast by different tellers, expanding and evolving with time.Shira Chess has noted that the Slender Man exemplifies the similarities between traditional folklore and the open source ethos of the Internet, and that, unlike those of traditional monsters such as vampires and werewolves, the Slender Man’s mythos can be tracked and signposted, giving a powerful insight into how myth and folklore form.Tye Van Horn, a writer for The Elm, has suggested that the Slender Man represents modern fear of the unknown; in an age flooded with information people have become so inured to ignorance that they now fear what they cannot understand.Troy Wagner, the creator of Marble Hornets, ascribes the terror of the Slender Man to its malleability; people can shape it into whatever frightens them most.
One of the exciting audioclips is from YouTube and is called “Thomas Nealy interrogation (Slender Man attack)”:
And finally there is this documentary about Slender Man (5 parts):
So is Slender Man a real-deal? I think that in this case like others so called “campfire tales” partly it is true and one part of it is a hoax. But watch out for Slender… and stay tuned for more CREATURES FROM BEYOND!
Aaaahh… the legendary Montauk Project. This is a tricky one to crack. There is so much information considering about this case that it is almost impossible to investigate. On the other hand it is one of the most exciting cases, because of living persons who stick to their testimonies. So either they really went through this or they are just plain mad lunatics. Just right case to Blogman’s journey.
There are different kind of ways to approach this subject, but my way is through couple of persons and they are; the legend itself Preston B. Nichols, Duncan Cameron, Al Bielek and Steward Swerdlow. Those are the main characters of this case and you just have to read & listen all their testimonies to get the full picture. I can lead this, but you have to do your work yourself if you want to make your own conclusions.
There is also another aspect of this and it is the military projects carried through on the Plum island. This story includes the famous Montauk monster, but I consider this another story and maybe I investigate it later. Now we focus in the Montauk project, which includes disappearing warships (USS Eldridge), time traveling, soul transferring (soul matrix or walk-in), mind control and PSI. Awesome!
First I post here the testimonies of Preston B. Nichols and Duncan Cameron, because these were the first videos that I watched when I found this interesting case. So here you have these videos (10 parts). These videos mainly contains all the basic Montauk project data, so they are considered as mandatory, if you want to understand anything about this case:
Then there is a lots of information in Alfred Bielek’s own website. Here is one of him’s interview in Art Bell show in 1993. Lot’s of Philadelphia experiment stuff too, but it is impossible to separate these two cases so here you go (12 parts):
And then there is a man called Steward Swerdlow. I think he is one of the famous Montauk boys, but he also talks about Al Bielek and he has written a book of this case called “Montauk: The Alien Connection“. I have this book, but not yet read it, but soon I will and maybe I wrote a review about it, because I have thought to release some book reviews too. But here is a small snippet of Steward talking for example Al Bielek:
And here is the Steward’s story:
This Philadelphia experiment/Montauk project is just a big mess… I have studied this case since 2007 and it still makes me wonder, that if this really happened, should we know about it?
This mystery was baybe the first ones, that I investigated in 2001 or 2002. It is a fascineting story about Nikola Tesla’s forbidden technology, military project gone wrong and time travel. Or actually it was accidental time travel, because this case was about invisibility project that went wrong and caused time travel. This case includes another project called Montauk project, but I like to handle these in different cases, because the topic is so complicated already.
Firstly I introduce the story from Wikipedia cause it’s no use that I invent this story again. So here is the brief summary about Philadelphia experiment:
The experiment was allegedly based on an aspect of the unified field theory, a term coined by Albert Einstein. The Unified Field Theory aims to describe mathematically and physically the interrelated nature of the forces that comprise electromagnetic radiation and gravity, in other words uniting the fields of electromagnetism and gravity into one field. Consequently, if light was bent, then space-time would be bent, effectively creating an invisible time machine. To date, no single theory is known to have successfully expressed these relationships in viable mathematical or physical terms.
According to the accounts, unspecifed ‘researchers’ thought that some version of this Unified Field Theory would enable a person to use large electrical generators to bend light around an object so that the object became completely invisible. The Navy would have regarded this as being of obvious military value, and by the accounts, it sponsored the experiment.
Another unattributed version of the story proposes that researchers were preparing magnetic and gravitational measurements of the seafloor to detect anomalies, supposedly based on Einstein’s attempts to understand gravity. In this version there were also related secret experiments in Nazi Germany to find antigravity, allegedly led by SS–ObergruppenführerHans Kammler.
There are no reliable, attributable accounts but in most accounts of the experiment, the destroyer escort USS Eldridge was fitted with the required equipment at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. Testing began in the summer of 1943, and it was supposedly successful to a limited degree. One test, on July 22, 1943, resulted in the Eldridge being rendered almost completely invisible, with some witnessesreporting a “greenish fog” appearing in its place. Crew members supposedly complained of severe nausea afterwards. Also, it is saidthat when the ship reappeared, some sailors were embedded in the metal structures of the ship, including one sailor who ended up on a deck level below that where he began, and had his hand embedded in the steel hull of the ship, as well as some sailors who went “completely bananas”.At that point, it is saidthat the experiment was altered at the request of the Navy, with the new objective being solely to render the Eldridge invisible to radar. None of these allegations has been independently substantiated.
The conjecture then alleges that the equipment was not properly re-calibrated, but in spite of this, the experiment was repeated on October 28, 1943. This time, the Eldridge not only became invisible, but she physically vanished from the area in a flash of blue light and teleported to Norfolk, Virginia, over 200 miles (320 km) away. It is claimed that the Eldridge sat for some time in full view of men aboard the ship SS Andrew Furuseth, whereupon the Eldridge vanished from their sight, and then reappeared in Philadelphia at the site it had originally occupied. It was also said that the warship went approximately 10 seconds back in time.
Many versions of the tale include descriptions of serious side effects for the crew. Some crew members were said to have been physically fused to bulkheads, while others suffered from mental disorders, and still others supposedly simply vanished. It is also claimed that the ship’s crew may have been subjected to brainwashing, in order to maintain the secrecy of the experiment.
Nikola Tesla’s involvement in the Philadelphia experiment:
So there is the story and in my point of view the most interesting thing about this is of course the time travel part. There are always people involved and also in Philadelphia experiment. The first person who is worth of mention is Morris K. Jessup. Here is his part of the story:
On January 13, 1955, Jessup received a letter from a man who identified himself as one “Carlos Allende.” In the letter, Allende informed Jessup of the “Philadelphia Experiment,” alluding to two poorly sourced contemporary newspaper articles as proof. Allende directly responded to Jessup’s call for research on the “Unified Field Theory,” which he referred to as “UFT.” According to Allende, Einstein had solved the theory, but had suppressed it, since mankind was not ready for it—a confession that the scientist allegedly shared with the mathematician and philosopher Bertrand Russell. Allende also said that he had witnessed the Eldridge appear and disappear while serving aboard the SS Andrew Furuseth, a nearby merchant ship. Allende named other crew members with whom he served aboard the Andrew Furuseth, and claimed to know the fate of some of the crew members of the Eldridge after the experiment, including one whom he witnessed disappearing during a chaotic fight in a bar. Although Allende claimed to have observed the experiment while on the Andrew Furuseth, he provided no substantiation of his other claims linking the experiment with the Unified Field Theory, no evidence of Einstein’s alleged resolution of the theory, and no proof of Einstein’s alleged private confession to Russell.
Jessup replied to Allende by a postcard, asking for further evidence and corroboration. The reply arrived months later, with the correspondent identifying himself as “Carl M. Allen.” Allen said that he could not provide the details for which Jessup was asking, but he implied that he might be able to recall some by means of hypnosis. Suspecting that Allende/Allen might be, or was, an impostor, Jessup discontinued the correspondence.
Jessup attempted to make a living writing on the topic, but his follow-up book did not sell well. His publisher rejected several other manuscripts. In 1958, his wife left him, and his friends described him as being depressed and somewhat unstable when he traveled to New York. After returning to Florida, he was involved in a serious car accident and was slow to recover, which added to his depression. He was found dead on April 20, 1959, and the death was ruled a suicide.
There is also a movie about this case and you can watch this whole movie in YouTube:
In 1984, the story was adapted into a time travel film called The Philadelphia Experiment directed by Stewart Raffill. Though only loosely based on the prior accounts of the “Experiment,” it served to dramatize the core elements of the original story. In 1990, Alfred Bielek,a self-proclaimed former crew-member of the USS Eldridge and an alleged witness of the “Experiment,” supported the version as it was portrayed in the film. He added details of his claims through the Internet, some of which were picked up by mainstream outlets.
Heavily involved in this case is a person mentioned above, Alfred or Al Bielek. Here is his website:
This is just a snippet of this story and if you want a full picture of the case, you have to read the books, watch the movie and read or listen the testimonies of the people involved. I think, that something based on the Nikola Tesla’s technology happened and some of the story has been colored Hollywood style, but as far as I know this story hasn’t been debunked and let’s face it, the evidence is overwhelming.
There is also The Montauks project, which is tangled with this case and is going under my scope next.
