After nearly 50 years of research one of the most fascinating scientific breakthroughs in the history of human society is now being realized in government funded research labs around the world. These development efforts have been advancing several types of time control technologies and the results have reached a performance level that is positioning them to change our world and reality in ways difficult to comprehend.

What many people find surprising is that the technologies delivering the results today are not based upon the popular sciences portrayed in media and movies of traveling faster than the speed of light, near light speed, or through wormholes. They are instead based upon the lesser known techniques in spacetime physics of generating fields of closed timelike curves (CTCs) and superluminal propagation of information using quantum tunneling. In different ways these techniques allow the transmission of matter, information or living organisms backward and forward in time without the need to make matter move faster than the speed of light.

These developments offer the potential for tremendous benefit to human society on this planet and also risk. To help manage these developments and opportunities wisely we all should understand some basics of time control technologies and methods, the basis of the most effective technologies, the potential benefits and risks of their use, and also the steps necessary to ensure the protection and benefit to human society on this planet. This article was prepared to provide such a summary.

Ten Ways to Travel through Time

The ability to control time in both a forward and backwards direction is possible within the laws of our mathematics and physics in several ways. The chart to the right lists and compares ten different time control technologies and methods listed on the left. Key characteristics are identified across the chart for each and described below.

Under each key characteristic is a column with either a solid or empty circle. A solid circle indicates a key characteristic is supported by the indicated technology or method, an empty circle indicates it is not.

“Time Control” indicates whether travel to future, past, or both are possible. “Matter Transport” is solid if both matter and information can be transported; empty if only information can be transported. “Tech Viability” is solid if the technology or method is viable with present state-of-the-art technology or within two generations. “Possible without Exotic Materials” is solid if materials required are available today or within two generations. “Relatively Low Input Power” is solid if time control is achievable within power generation capabilities available today or within two generations.

A summary of this comparison follows below after a short description of each technology and method.

10 TECHNOLOGIES AND METHODS FOR TIME CONTROL AND TIME TRAVEL

Quantum Tunneling: is an evanescent wave coupling effect that occurs in quantum mechanics. The correct wavelength combined with the proper tunneling barrier makes it possible to pass signals faster than light, backwards in time. Circulating Light Beams: can be created using gamma and magnetic fields to warp time. The approach can twist space that causes time to be twisted, meaning you could theoretically walk through time as you walk through space.

Near-Lightspeed Travel: has the ability to significantly dilate time, sending an accelerating traveler rapidly forward in time relative to those left behind before her travel. The closer to the speed of light, the further into the future the travel. Wormholes: are hypothetical areas of warped spacetime with great energy that can create tunnels through spacetime. If traversable they would allow a traveler to quickly move through great distances in space and also travel through time.

Alcubierre Warp Drive: stretches spacetime in a wave causing the fabric of space ahead of a spacecraft to contract and the space behind it to expand. The ship can ride the wave to accelerate to high speeds and time travel. Cosmic Strings: are a hypothetical 1-dimensional (spatially) topological defect in the fabric of spacetime left over from the formation of the universe. Interaction could create fields of closed timelike curves permitting backwards time travel.

Faster-than-Light Travel: is a controversial subject. According to special relativity anything that could travel faster-than-light would move backward in time. As the same time, special relativity states that this would require infinite energy. Tipler Cylinder: uses a massive and long cylinder spinning around its longitudinal axis. The rotation creates a frame-dragging effect and fields of closed timelike curves traversable in a way to achieve subluminal time travel to the past.

Time-warped Fields: use energy within curvatures of spacetime around a rotating mass or energy field to generate containable and controllable fields of closed-timelike curves that can move matter and information forward or backward in time. Casimir Effect: a physical force arising from a quantized field, for example between two uncharged plates. This can produce a locally mass-negative region of space-time that could stabilize a wormhole to allow faster than light travel.

Time Control Technologies and Methods – Comparison Results

All of these technologies and methods support time control and time travel but only a few can be achieved using the available technology on this planet at this point in time. While traveling at near or faster-than-light speeds is a very popular topic in media or movies the system input power simply cannot be achieved at this point in time.

Wormholes, Tipler Cylinders and cosmic strings also popular subjects in movies but they either remain theoretical or require exotic materials or technologies that will not be available for several generations on this planet. It is important to note that great progress is being made is using the Casimir Effect in attempts to generate and harness wormholes in the quantum foam. But this area of time-control research is quite young and the results are yet to be determined.

The top performers of time control technologies are those less known to the public. These technologies have been the focus of government funded research programs around the world since as early as the 1960s, but kept out of the public eye for many reasons.

These spacetime technologies and methods producing real results include the superluminal transport of information backward in time using quantum tunneling or CTC-based technologies including Time-Warped Field technology, Circulating Light Beams, and different variations of the two. We will take a look at the basic principles behind these technologies but first let’s take a look at global activity in the time research field today.

Superluminal Propagation of Information

The first key method, pioneered by Russia in the 1960’s, is superluminal propagation of information using quantum tunneling effects. Technologies using this method apply a wave coupling effect that occurs in quantum mechanics. By using the correct wavelength combined with the proper tunneling barrier it is possible to pass signals faster than the speed of light, backwards in time. On the surface some would say this violates Einstein’s special theory of relativity because nothing can travel faster than light because it requires infinite energy. This is true of matter, but not mass-less information. Technologies using this method operate without violating special relativity and can, for example, transmit an information stream out of a tunneling chamber before it finishes entering, backwards in time. However, this technology is limited strictly to information and cannot transmit matter or living organisms.

CTC-Based Technology – The Emerging Leader in Time Control

The possibility for reverse time loops to be created where a person or object could travel backwards in time and emerge in their own past is not new. It was first suggested as a possibility by German mathematician Kurt Gödel in the 1940s.

Later Frank Tipler built upon this, discovering a solution to the equations of general relativity prepared by Willem Jacob van Stockum in 1936 and Kornel Lanczos in 1924. In a 1974 paper Tipler showed that in a spacetime containing a massive, infinitely long cylinder which was spinning along its longitudinal axis, the cylinder should create a special frame-dragging effect. See illustration below.

This frame-dragging effect warps spacetime in such a way that the light cones (regions of sub-lightspeed travel) of objects in the cylinder’s proximity become tilted, so that part of the light cone then points backwards along the time axis (represented by the vertical axis). Therefore a spacecraft navigating a carefully plotted course can travel backwards through time along a closed timelike curve or CTC without traveling faster than the speed of light. This is illustrated as a backwards spiral in time in the lower left corner of the illustration. This is a very large-scale example but is presented because it illustrates the basic principles of how most CTC-based technologies operate.

Since the 1970s the most significant development in this area is the possibility to produce fields of containable closed-timelike curves using much less energy than previously thought required. It has also been learned that these time-warped fields can be harvested from both manmade as well as naturally occurring phenomenon. CTCs and time-warped field theory is now the basis for nearly all practical time control research and development today. It also is a key element and basic principles for new time reactor designs that are being considered for clean energy production.

The range of possibilities with time control technology is so enormous that its impact is only limited by the imagination of those controlling the technology. The level of opportunities and risks that come with the use of the technology are unprecedented in the history of this planet. This puts human society in a very critical position at this point in time.

Ethics demands that the greater our knowledge and power as a society, the greater our need for moral responsibility in the application of that power. We must ensure that our capacity for moral reasoning keeps pace with the developments of our knowledge and capacities. However, with time control technology the gap between moral reasoning and our technological capacity has reached a critical point. The complex web of interdependencies and potential impact to society from using this technology now exceed our present capacity for human reasoning.

So, why don’t all the research labs just stop the operations and bury the technology? It’s too late. The technology is now active in too many locations. The issue is no longer whether we should or should not acquire or use this knowledge and capacity. Rather, the issue is how to use this new knowledge in an ethically responsible manner.

The Solution

The conclusion of this author and many colleagues actively working in this field everyday is that we must begin a four-step approach to ensure human society is protected and benefits from this technology. The steps are:

1. Full Disclosure of Technology – Any new scientific breakthrough that offers commercial prospects attracts tremendous interests and investment from the both the private sector and private enterprise. One cannot underestimate the financial aspirations and power large business, and the political and economical aspirations and power of governments and their desire to keep it secret. However, this barrier must be overcome and full disclosure of all technology, its use, and further development must be achieved.

2. Global Education Initiative – A global education initiative must be implemented to ensure every person has the opportunity to learn, understand and explore the technological developments and knowledge gained from all work in the field.

3. Establishment of a World Time Council – Perhaps the most critical step, we as a human society must establish a leadership group to act as a moral compass. This group must come together and operate across all geographic, political, corporate and spiritual lines and work together with the single goal to ensure the protection of human society and that out planet benefits from the technology use.

4. Monitoring – A global network of Temporal Tremor Detectors (TTDs) must be deployed to monitor and report all activations of time control technology to all citizens. This public TTD network can be efficiently deployed and operated in a space-based configuration around the planet.

For the first time in history this planets very survival demands that we begin to consider ethical responsibility, not just in the application of science, but also in the direction of research and development of new realities and technology. Time control is a perplexing subject, mostly because the first step in understanding it is to understand and overcome the limitations of our body’s senses and perceptions and our mind’s belief system. But the time to begin learning and becoming part of the solution is now. Tomorrow or even yesterday may simply be too late.

There is always good at the time of your cross-over. Even people who have lived lives of selfishness will know and understand the rejoicing. Whatever you have sown you are going to reap in terms of structuring your experiences and lessons which continue on the other side. But the first few days of cross-over (as you know time on the Earth plane) you are allowed to be with your teachers, and those who have loved you in the past. You are able to see those you left behind and to hear their thoughts and words. The first six weeks we stay very close to our loved ones on the Earth plane … After the first six weeks the soul meets with what may be called a loving board of directors. It is composed of teachers and other higher beings who have walked with you. Death is a rebirth into a spirit world of light and love, a transition from the physical to the spiritual that is no more frightening or painful than passing between rooms through an open doorway. George Anderson’s Psychic Revelations: “Well, according to what they say, go through the different levels of consciousness. We’re working our way up. It’s like, to go up to the twelfth grade, you’ve got to pass the first through the eleventh. Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’ NDE Homecoming Research: “His entire family had piled into a family van and were on the way to pick him up when this tragic accident occurred which burned his entire family to death. He shared the shock and the numbness, the utter disbelief of suddenly being a single man, of having had children and suddenly becoming childless, of living without a single close relative. He told of his total inability to come to grips with it. He shared how he changed from a money-earning, decent, middle-class husband and father to a total bum, drunk every day from morning to night, using every conceivable drug and trying to commit suicide in every conceivable way, yet never able to succeed. His last recollection was that after two years of literally bumming around, he was lying on a dirt road at the edge of a forest, drunk and stoned as he called it, trying desperately to be reunited with his family. Not wanting to live, not even having the energy to move out of the road when he saw a big truck coming toward him and running over him. It was at this moment that he watched himself in the street [sic], critically injured, while he observed the whole scene of the accident from a few feet above. It was at this moment that his family appeared in front of him, in a glow of light with an incredible sense of love. They had happy smiles on their faces, and simply made him aware of their presence, not communicating in any verbal way but in the form of thought transference, sharing with him the joy and happiness of their present existence. This man was not able to tell us how long this reunion lasted. He was so awed by his family’s health, their beauty, their radiance and their total acceptance of this present situation, by their unconditional love. He made a vow not to touch them, not to join them, but to re-enter his physical body so that he could share with the world what he had experienced. It would be a form of redemption for his two years of trying to throw his physical life away. It was after this vow that he watched the truck driver carry his totally injured body into the car. He saw an ambulance speeding to the scene of the accident, he was taken to the hospital’s emergency room and he finally re-entered his physical body, tore off the straps that were tied around him and literally walked out of the emergency room. He never had delirium tremens or any aftereffects from the heavy abuse of drugs and alcohol. He felt healed and whole, and made a commitment that he would not die until he had the opportunity of sharing the existence of life after death with as many people as would be willing to listen. It was after reading a newspaper article about my appearance in Santa Barbara that he sent a message to the auditorium. Aziz Khabirpour’s NDE Homecoming Research: “Meeting others during a NDE is not uncommon, and often has great effect upon the person’s being afterwards. The people they meet are either family members or very close friends. These people, in form of spiritual beings, are usually there to either protect or guide the person. It is not always common for the person to be seen, but usually they are more felt’. One woman who met her family when she died states, I felt that they had come to protect or guide me. It was almost as if I was coming home, and they were there to greet or welcome me. All this time, I had the feeling of everything light and beautiful. It was a beautiful and glorious moment (Moody 55). Accounts have also been reported where the dead person is guided around by his/her pet, that he/she used to have. The people one encounters with are usually people that played an important role in ones life. The people that were seen could often be described as soul mates. Michelle Dillon’s NDE Homecoming Experience: “And then I was Home and I knew it was Home and I wasn’t afraid. Randy Gehling’s NDE Homecoming Experience: Randy could hear beautiful music playing somewhere off in the distance. “Just a little ways off I could see a bridge with someone standing on it. Beyond the bridge, I saw a golden city with towers like European castles. The whole city seemed to be shining with light that shot up into the sky like a giant searchlight. I could see that some of the domes of the city were red, others were gold, and a few were blue. The gates and walls of the city seemed to be made of bright blue, red, and violet lights.” Randy asked Areo if they were going to visit the city. The angel nodded. “That’s to be your new home, Randy.” They began walking toward the bridge to the city, and Randy saw that the man standing awaiting them was his Grandpa Hansen. Randy ran to his grandfather and felt his strong arms close around him. Grandpa Hansen had been a farmer all of his life in Minnesota. He had died, still a powerful man, when Randy was six. Randy asked his beloved grandfather if he would now be living with him in heaven. “One day,” Grandpa Hansen told him. “But not just yet.” When Randy questioned his grandfather, he told him that he still had things to learn on Earth. Laurelynn Martin’s NDE Homecoming Experience: “As I admired the beauty of the light, I was drawn closer, feeling the radiant warmth, infinite love and lasting peace. I felt as if I were home in the light. Before I became further engulfed in the light, I became aware of many spirits. They surrounded, embraced and supported my journey with their gentleness, knowledge and guidance. I felt one of them approach from my right upper side. This familiar presence came forward and my feelings changed to sheer joy when I discovered my thirty year old brother-in-law, the one who had died seven months earlier from cancer. My essence moved to meet his essence. I couldn’t see with my eyes or hear with my ears, yet I instinctively knew that it was ‘Wills.’ I heard his smile, saw his laughter and felt his humor. It didn’t make sense, but it made complete sense. We were separate but we were also one. It was as if I had come home and my brother-in-law was here to greet me. I instantly thought how glad I was to be with him, because now I could make up for the last time I had seen him before his death. DRONING PROCESS

Droning occurs when a Vril injects its quill/proboscis into the human eye where the lizard parasite takes over the human host brain. It is terribly painful for the human being until the human consciousness dies and the vril parasite consciousness is in full control. All (or most) memory and ability of former human is retained & the lizard consciousness now mimicks the former human’s behaviors. The former human is now a drone. It is not uncommon for male or female drones to lose their hair at a younger age. Intelligence seems a little decreased-with a minimal capacity-if any, to understand sarcasm and/or dry humour. Offspring have increased risk of various birth abnormalities. Drones often seem incapable of empathy/sympathy and can quite often display psychotic behaviours. Drones enjoy perversion, sexual deviance and self gratification. The drone will seem to be an ill human until fully recovered from the parasitical infection which takes varying degrees of time, but is usually minimal. The eye that was droned with the proboscis will be affected and sometimes never fully recovers, leaving the affected eye to seem different from the other. Most drones appear completely normal and walk among us undetected.

The Vril proboscis connects with human eye and releases a foamy substance where the parasite injects itself into the human brain. The unfortunate human suffers temporary agony. Once the parasite is effectively in the brain, the human ceases to exist and the Vril is in full control of it’s host body.The age-old ‘eye of Horus’ symbol represents the age-old
~ Drones do NOT have lizard eyes. There are no major or obvious physical changes to the human body. The only change is that the human consciousness has ceased to exist and the Vril consciousness is now in control of the body.

~ Drones are NOT shapeshifters. Once the lizard takes over the human, there is no transferring in and out of the body as it is a permanent one time transfer until the lizard consciousness perishes. Shapeshifting is thought to be a metaphoric description of droning as it was difficult for people and/or their cultures to communicate the existance of Vril, much less the droning procedure in a way that would not bring them harm for attempting to expose the ancient secret or to preserve any information whatsoever.

THE SCIENCE OF PARASITES

After Reading Donald Marshall’s story where he claims to be a clone victim subject to tortuous acts by Queen Elizabeth & her gross elite friends, there was one part to his claims that I could NOT allow myself to believe….the parasitic ancient lizards called Vril. My conscious brain would not allow me to believe this part of Donald’s claims yet something was subconsciously driving me to look into it. Finally I decided to allow my ego to risk the potentials of embracing this ‘ludicracy.’

I communicated with Donald via skype several times and found that not only was he very REAL, he is very mentally stable as well. He’s humorous, kind & intelligent. He truly is an amazing, strong, courageous & moral human being. After getting good vibes from Donald, I kept up some really intense research and I believe I can offer merit to Donald’s claims about Vril Lizards. Please open that mind of yours to very real scientific possibilities that may just explain a few things.

I aim to link science to Vril lizard possibilities as I believe this is the one area that people are unable to wrap their minds around, as was I.

Humans, animals, insects & REPTILES can all become infected with a parasite. This is not a new concept and is widely known. Parasites ‘take over’ the thought process of the host (body) that it invades. An infected ant will be ‘driven’ to climb up on a blade of grass to purposely become eaten by grazing animals so that it can enter the stomach of sheep, cow, etc. and complete its life cycle. Sometimes the parasite can be transferred to a human that eats the newly infected animal, such as a pig. Pigs are very nasty creatures biologically and the bible FORBIDS any consumption of this meat or meat of any other ‘split hoofed’ animal. Sometimes humans can contract a parasite from an infected cat as well (Toxoplasma gondii). No matter how it gets contracted, once it enters the body it can in fact invade the brain. Parasites mimic their host yet the thought processes and further behaviors of infected persons alter significantly.

In the case of ‘Toxoplasma Gondii’ found in the stomachs of cats, the cats excrete the eggs and the eggs are eaten by smaller animals such as rats. The rats ingest the parasite and are ‘taken over’ to the point of losing their fear of cats and exposing themselves directly to a cat so that it can be ingested by and further infect that cat. Parasites instinctual nature is to ‘take over’ as much and as often as possible. There are various ways the parasites transfer from animals/bugs/reptiles to humans and once inside the human host, the natural process is to ‘take over’ the human thought process and control it. This is scientifically proven! Since humans are superior and there is nothing left to ‘take over’, the parasite is content to live in the human and the human becomes diseased. The parasite must feed and if it has infected the brain, then it begins to feed of the brain itself where the host begins to lose feelings like empathy & sympathy, they become sinister and self-driven. They eventually care for nothing but themselves and their self-preservation. They will hurt/destroy almost anyone/anything to get what they want/need. They become the most ruthless people on the planet.

See where this is going? Our world leaders fit this ‘psychopath’ description to a tee. Do you think all of our corrupt leaders, corporations, scientists, teachers, doctors, military, clergy, lawyers/judges, child welfare workers, police, etc. got infected by a cat scratch or could there be a different way they became infected? Since parasites are very common in lizards, I wonder if you could believe for even a fraction of a second that there may be truth to the fact that the illuminati’s best kept secret is Vril lizards. Could Vril lizards possibly transfer a parasite & ‘take over’ the elite characters on our planet and drive them to be the ‘evil’ that we just cannot understand in today’s world? I think so. When an uninfected rat senses a ‘predator’ cat nearby it becomes very frightened and aims to avoid the cat at all costs, as us ‘normal’ humans do when we sense an ‘evil’, ‘bad’, or ‘corrupt’ person. Yet when an infected rat senses the ‘predator’ cat it will present itself to the cat. This makes so much sense as far as I’m concerned. ‘WE’, the uninfected ‘rats’ naturally sense this same ‘fear’ when we are exposed to the ‘predator’ cat and we ‘run away’ from it, yet the infected ‘rats’ (psychopaths) among us do not fear the ‘predator’ qualities of the cat and instead desire & seek to become the same powerful ‘predator’. These people do not fear the bigger cats who could potentially ‘eat them’ and ‘desire’ to be as ‘powerful’ thereby giving up everything they are to become such. They don’t care about their former self…they now thrive for the power. Parasites and psychopaths often crave ‘evolving power’.

Just as UFOs have become synonymous with alien visitors, similarly it is often assumed that ghosts, if they are real, must be the spirits of the deceased. There are, however, several paranormal theories to explain ghosts that would be equally paradigm shattering to mainstream science if they could be scientifically verified and proven to be real, and not just the product of overactive imaginations.

Psychic Powers

Poltergeists cases typically involve objects being moved about seemingly on their own. There are two main schools of thought on what might be responsible for such phenomena, the first being that the spirits of the dead are trying to communicate with the living. The second is that the psychic abilities of the living could cause poltergeist effects. In an interview with Haunted Wales author, Richard Holland, I had the opportunity to ask him about his own childhood poltergeist experiences and whether he thought psychic powers could be the cause:

I’m not sure – well, who is? But the feeling of a presence has stayed with me, that there was something trying to get at me in some unidentifiable way. I’m not sold on the ‘wild talents’ concept entirely for that reason. Nor does a lot of poltergeist behaviour tally with a conscious, reasoning spirit – why spread marmalade down the banisters or lay flowerpots out in a line on the kitchen floor like the Pontefract polt did? When I was at university I read about bacteriophages, viruses so primitive that they can barely be called life at all. They attach themselves to bacteria and pump in their RNA. The rest of it, a protein shell, drifts away. The RNA recodes the bacterial DNA and – lo! – two viruses where once there was one bacterium.

It made me wonder about a primitive consciousness, scarcely a mind at all,just a mass of electrical discharges that floats about and like the phage can only exist in any real form by latching onto a human mind. Perhaps puberty makes our brains susceptible to such encroaches. Perhaps similar twilight entities answer our subconscious needs according to our current superstitious beliefs – become fairies when we believe in fairies, then aliens when we believe in aliens. Perhaps they created some crop circles, too. More recently, I’ve been getting interested in the Islamic concept of the Jinn, incorporeal spirits created out of ‘smokeless fire’ at the same time as Man, and living alongside us. That comes quite close to what I’ve been groping at.

Stone Tape Theory

What has become known inside paranormal circles as the Stone Tape Theory originates from a television play written by Quatermass creator, Nigel Kneale. First shown on BBC1 on Christmas day in 1972, The Stone Tape combined science fiction with the ghost story genre and involved a group of scientists investigating an alleged haunting in hopes of discovering a brand new recording medium.

After observing the apparition themselves, which seems to appear after vibrations from loud noise disturbs the brickwork of the building, the scientists speculate about what the ghost is. After experimenting and making the apposition appear again, the team of researchers speculate that somehow limestone can record moments of the past. In other words, that human memory can be psychically recorded by the brickwork of a building and then later played back by someone sensitive enough to act as a psychic video player.

If true, the Stone Tape Theory might also go some way to explaining some of the problems with ghostly apparitions. For instance, why do witnesses always seem to report ghosts from only a few centuries ago? Why hardly ever from more than a few thousand years ago and seemingly never from pre-history? Perhaps the answer could be that much like old video tape, stone tape recordings have a limited lifespan too; slowly degenerating over the ages until they are unplayable.

The theory might also provide the answer to another oddity of apparition cases; why is it that some people see full blown solid apparitions where others only see transparent figures, shadows, or worse, nothing at all? Again like a conventional video tape, perhaps the older a stone tape recording gets, the more the sound and picture quality suffers. Alternatively, as is the case in Nigel Kneale’s script, it could be that some witnesses might make better psychic video players than others.

The ghost or recording is seen, or “played” might be a better term, inside the witness’s own mind rather than in the outside physical world. Therefore, depending on the sensitivity of the witnesses, it’s quite possible that several people might experience the same apparition very differently. Also, if apparitions are seen only in the mind, it would also explain the difficulty paranormal investigators have had obtaining quality photographs and audio recordings of ghosts.

The theory that ghosts might really be some kind of psychic tape recording rather than the spirits of the dead might not be desirable to some ghost hunters who believe ghosts are proof of life after death. However, if ever proven the Stone Tape Theory would raise equally important questions about the true nature of consciousness and the human mind. In the 1990s Ghost Hunters, shown in the UK on the Discovery channel, Professor Brian Josephson of Cambridge Laboratory suggested that the only way he could understand how a piece of inanimate matter could hold impressions of the past would be if “the stone, or whatever it was, had some kind of consciousness.”

Time-Slips

Could time travel to the past explain some paranormal encounters?

A time-slip is an alleged paranormal phenomenon in which a person, or even group of people, seem to somehow travel through time via apparently supernatural means. Although a stable of science fiction since HG Wells penned his novel The Time Machine, Albert Einstein laid down the foundation for the theoretical possibility of time travel with his special theory of relativity.

According to Einstein’s theory time slows down as you approach the speed of light, stopping entirely for any object somehow able to travel at light speed. The assumption of science fiction writers being that if you could somehow travel faster than the speed of light then time should run backwards. So time travel to the past might be possible, although only at super-luminal speeds; but what about in our everyday lives? Is it possible to go round a strange street corner and walk into another time and place? Amazingly, there are many accounts of credible people who believe this is precisely what has happened to them.

One of the most well documented time-slip cases is that of the Simpsons and the Gisbys. The 1979 incident was featured in a memorable episode of the ITV television series Strange But True? In the programme, the two English couples described how while traveling through France en route to a holiday in Spain, they stayed the night at a strangely antiquated hotel. Bedding in very basic rooms, they were a little unnerved to discover no glass in any of the building’s windows, only wooden shutters that closed from the outside. It wasn’t just the building though, all the people they met, which included everyone from police officers to locals, seemed strangely old fashioned too, dressed almost as if they had just stepped out of the 19th century. In fact, everything even cutlery they ate with seemed out-dated by a century. Not being able to speak much French, the English couples couldn’t ask about it.

Putting all the strange anachronisms down to simply being in rural France and impressed by the mere 18 francs their stay had cost them, the four decided to look for the same hotel again on their return journey. However, this time, despite searching for several hours, they were unable to find it again. What more, when they returned home they were puzzled when all the photos they had taken there turned out blank. As if the hotel and its inhabitants had somehow simply vanished, disappearing even from their film negatives.

Another time-slip case involved the famous psychiatrist Carl Jung. While traveling through Italy in the 1930s the great philosopher visited the tomb of a Roman Empress in Ravenna. Impressed with the remarkable beauty of the mosaics depicting maritime scenes in an eerily pale blue light, he discussed them with his companion for about half an hour and, on leaving the mausoleum, even tried to purchase postcards of them; surprisingly though there weren’t any for sale. Sometime later, Jung asked a friend visiting Ravenna if he could obtain pictures for him.

It was only after seeing them that he finally learned the truth. The mosaics he had seen and discussed in great detail were totally different to the mosaics now decorating the mausoleum. However, they did exist once but had been destroyed in a fire some 700 years previously. So what is going on? Rather than physically travelling back in time, Jung believed that his consciousness had somehow travelled back in time to when the mausoleum had been first constructed, 1400 years prior to his visit to Ravenna. Jung’s theory would definitely explain why the Simpsons and the Gisbys weren’t able to get any photographs.

It might also solve why their French hosts didn’t make a fuss about the English tourists using modern currency; maybe their 19^th century hosts simply saw money from their own era. Also, Time-slip experiencers often report bouts of depression or unease just prior to, or, at the start of their experience. Perhaps indicating that the mind or human consciousness is involved, as Jung believed. Below is part of an email I received from a reader of my blog about an alleged time-slip experience:

What happened was this: Up until the 4th grade, all of my teachers had been attentive, benevolent creatures, I excelled, and school was a joy to me. That year, however, instead of spending all day in “home-room,” we began to change classes for different subjects and I found myself in a math classroom with a teacher who was always angry, especially at me for some reason. She would call on me incessantly and find a reason to upbraid me. I became so afraid that I would feel physically ill every day on the way to her class.

A few weeks into the year, she reassigned our seats because we were all “bad.” I now found myself much further back in the room, and near a sidewall. Along with all of the usual things found on elementary school walls, there was a painting there, just at eye level, that I had never noticed before. I would sit and stare at it, and it made me feel calm and safe. The teacher never called on me again, despite the fact that I was clearly paying no attention. I must have done my work and turned it in; although I have no memory of doing any work in there after the painting appeared. So far, sounds psychological, right?

Then it gets strange. Near the close of the year, an art teacher visited our homeroom. He talked about various artists, gave us some simple drawing supplies, and passed around a humanities book with some colour plates of paintings. One reminded me of the painting hanging in the math room; I raised my hand and said so. To my surprise, other students who shared that class with me said there was no such thing. My homeroom teacher trusted me and asked that I go down the hall and see if the math teacher would mind very much if we borrowed it for the day’s art lesson. I happily went, but when I got there, it was gone. There was nothing on that part of the wall at all, and the teacher said there never had been. I was confused and embarrassed. It did not reappear.

Afterward, I did my best to describe the painting to my mother, but it wasn’t enough to go on to track down the artist/image. I wondered about it on and off, but could never make sense of it. Many years later, I came across a café selling postcards and foam-board posters on a sidewalk. While idly flipping through them, I spotted it. It was a Wyeth entitled Christina’s World; I was stunned. So, it did exist!

Okay, my brain did not create a painting out of nothing…but rather brought us together somehow? How? Was I transported, or was it? Why that image? What is the connection?

I still have no idea, but do think that Jung was correct about the existence of a collective unconsciousness, and that certain conditions can spark connections. Since then, prints and copies of Christina’s World have continued to unexpectedly pop up in my life, seemingly only during times of great stress. But it is such a famous image; I would have to concede that there is some chance of coincidence.

While hard to verify, stories like the above would seem indicate that the human mind and consciousness may not be limited by the same laws of physics that prevent time travel in our everyday lives. Is it possible we all share a “collective unconsciousness”, which under rare circumstance can act like a psychic bridge connecting us to people living in the past?
