I have been on this agony journey for over a year now. And I can tell you, that this concept is real and if you survive it you can transform to a much better person. It is awakening to life in a way that no other thing can do. It is very painful and you are close to actual death many times on this journey. It is caused by huge mental trauma. On this journey you are all alone and no one can help you. You think that you are drowning, falling, dying… every single cell in your body dies and you born again with a new pair of eyes. Only thing that can help you is that you know, that you are on this journey, but the scary thing is that you don’t know how long the journey lasts. It could be a year, five years or ten years. It depends how humble you are and how willing you are to kill your EGO and the person you once were. You must kill yourself in the darkness and then find the small light and start to walk towards it… alone.
Eckhart Tolle explains the concept of the ‘dark night of the soul,’ a transformative phase marked by a collapse of perceived meaning in life. He discusses its potential as a precursor to spiritual awakening, where individuals may experience a deeper, non-conceptual sense of self. Tolle emphasizes acceptance and surrender during this process to facilitate healing and rebirth into a new state of consciousness.

How to Recognize You Are in the Dark Night of the Soul:
The Dark Night of the Soul (Spanish: La noche oscura del alma) is a phase of passive purification in the mystical development of the individual’s spirit, according to the 16th-century Spanish mystic and Catholic poet St. John of the Cross. John describes the concept in his treatise Dark Night (Noche Oscura), a commentary on his poem with the same name. It follows after the second phase, the illumination in which God’s presence is felt, but this presence is not yet stable. The author himself did not give any title to his poem, which together with this commentary and the Ascent of Mount Carmel (Subida del Monte Carmelo) forms a treatise on the active and passive purification of the senses and the spirit, leading to mystical union.[1]
In modern times, the phrase “dark night of the soul” has become a popular phrase to describe a crisis of faith or a difficult, painful period in one’s life.
